Guest guest
Hey Dylan,Exercise is actually good for people with IBD/IBS - autoimmune types, because, apparently wetend to produce too few endorphins - and exercise helps up the endorphin level, which in turnhelps to modulate the immune system to a healthier level, which helps to decreaseillness symptoms. And there are endorphin receptors all throughout the gut. So, if you have the energy level for it, I would definitely suggest you begin to re-implementan exercise regime - even if you have to start out more a lot more easily than you were usedto. I know even before SCD and learning about this, I always personally felt better on daysI made it to the gym and that those days reliably ameliorated my symptoms for the day. Exercise won't produce a greater capacity to make endorphins beyond the exercise burst, but it does tend to help with daily symptoms and also low levels of pain. Sorry - I was never into the supplement thing - so don't know much about it - thoughI don't believe there are any legal ones. But Marilyn always recommends to just eat proteins in this situation. MaraHey before i was "sick" i was always gun-ho about working out and stuff. and being military i need to be sure to stay in shape. so ive taken 7months off from the gym to focus my body's energy on healing. so i stuck to basic walks, and maybe some pushups here and there. usually stayed away from anyting involving abdominals. but i have been on this diet for almost a month now and have started to notice improvements ( big improvements personally-FINALLY!!!!) following the diet to the T is no problem but as you know just takes a little mind power. And i know the improvements are big for me, but realistically i know i have a long ways to go. so to prevent rushing into anything over the top im still keeping it KISS. so my question is this: is there anyone out there that is also athletic/gym rat that could give me some advice? and second: Anyone know of any SCD legal workout supplaments? I know it all boils down to reading the labels for fillers and such but jw. also, when i know my body is ready for this type of exercise would it just be better to eat higher protein foods and pass up on (if any) Legal supps? Guest guest
ok awesome thanks for that bit of information. i ws kinda figuring that just eating the foods would be the best/safest way to go. now that i think about it the old school body builders like arnold and loui just ate high protein diets being that they didnt have alot of supps back in the day. Also the increase in energy might explain why im not sleeping as deep/as well. this just started happening probably a day or 2 after the noticable improvements so i might have a lil more energy than i think. as far as vitamins go, i just visited freedo vitamins and have also been reading some on Saccharomyces Boulardii. any words on these products? Will be easier to direct suggestions. s. boulardii - - that helps many of us. depending on symptoms and etc., I think it is extremely valuable. As for vitamins, I would get some legal vitamin D3 - shoot for 5000IUs. NOW brand is good.Freeda's are good if you haven't been absorbing enough nutrients from your food - which can happen with people with compromised guts. to help you sleep deeper and to help you detox and for low levels achiness - joints, gut, etc, epsom baths before bed are super. Guest guest
well I was diagnosed with UC back in Feb of 07 but had symptoms a few months before that. just being on the diet has decreased blood, and trips the the restroom(looking right at 3, SOMETIMES 2 a day). so far i have gained 2lbs. before the diet it was the usual 10+ trips a day with blood. ive been med free for a year just because i couldnt stand the way it made me feel (pred and sulfasazine), and the lialda didnt really seem to help at all as well as my experience with asacol. As far as the NOW brand i bought some vitamins,Vit A, some B's and essential fatty acids, pre-SCD only to realize that they had some form of soy product in them so ive discontinued those. I would definitely try the s. boulardii. I think it should be part of the general protocol, personally, at this point. Mara

Guest guest
Mara- I couldn't agree more about the S. Boulardii. I am so bummed that it took me 10 months to finally try it. I encourage everyone to give it a shot!!!! Even if you have to go VERY low and slow like I did (starting with just 1/4 capsule a day). -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone I would definitely try the s. boulardii. Guest guest
For many of us the soy oil is just fine. It's apparently refined enough that the soy protein, which is not good for us, isn't there any longer. Of course if you happen to have a soy allergy, it might not work for you. I have all kinds of problems if I get whole soy of any sort but there's soy oil in my vitamin E (hard to find any that doesn't have it) and that's no problem for me. soy oil? cool sounds good. i freak whenever i see anything starting with soy. need to do more reading i guess. anywho i got some of those good bugs on the way so ill incorperate those ASAP. thanks for the info really appreciate it!!
