Guest guest
I don't have SIBO, but IBS so I can't specifically answer to your condition. However, I'd like to say two things. One of which is, it's not really a good idea to try to follow two diets. One is quite enough. My own feeling is that SCD is superior. Lots of us here can't eat all the legal foods. I can't handle eggs, dairy, very much protein (just chicken and some beef) at a time. In my case I can handle a lot more fruits than veggies but honey is too concentrated for me except for a rare treat. So don't let this stop you from trying the diet. We all have to figure out what works for us when we start, and then after some healing is achieved (differing lengths of time for different people) we are able to add more foods. But it's worth the limited diet for the healing. Hi everyone, I am relatively new to this group but have been reading the posts for the past few weeks and learning about SCD. My naturopath thinks I have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and recommended looking into SCD. She warned me that it was very restrictive though so she gave me some berberine to try along with whatever dietary changes I could manage to make towards SCD. I am reading the BVC book and also just started reading The Body Ecology Diet (BED) book. Both books claim to heal the gut. I am getting confused as to which diet to follow. Maybe this is out of the scope of this forum, but I thought that if anyone would know the answer or had the same struggle, it would be someone in this group. The problem is that I do not tolerate a lot of the SCD legal foods such as dairy or lots of protein in the form of meat and eggs. Also, I sometimes have right sided pain when I eat anything sugar-y including honey and fruits and then go downhill from there. When I started reading the BED book, I noticed it listed a lot more of the foods I can tolerate and also does not advocate sugar in any form including fruit or honey. BED does allow for gluten free grains in small quantities but no nuts. So, my questions, what is the difference between bacterial overgrowth and yeast overgrowth or are they just two ways of saying the same thing? If not, how do you know when you have one versus the other? What are differentiating symptoms? If not, does SCD treat yeast overgrowth? Has anyone tried BED? If so, did it work? TIA for your inputs!
