You’re

taking Xifanax (rifaximin), the antibiotic, correct? There is an

anti-anxiety med. that is spelled similarly, Xanax, so I wanted to make sure

which one you are taking. I’ve used both…

I’m

guessing you’re on the antibiotic since you mention SIBO. It is one

of the easier antibiotics to take, but it will mean you will have to work

harder to restore your gut ecology and prevent a candida overgrowth. You

will need to choose the easiest foods for your digestion, be careful with the

candida “trigger” foods, and make sure you are timing your daily

probiotic dose so that you take it two or three hours after a dose of

Xifanax. I hate to say it, but you probably won’t see much

improvement in healing until you’re no longer on the antibiotic –

but of course you do need to take care of the SIBO.

I’d

switch to a SCD-legal probiotic or the 24-hour yogurt as soon as

possible.

The

brain issues will improve as the gut issues improve. All connected!

So,

my goal on Xifanax is to get back out in the world by stopping the brain

issues while doing SCD to heal my gut and not have SIBO come back again as

it is apt to do. Good idea, bad? I see the doc tomorrow for the script.

Thanks for your experienced input ~ Janine

[Janine replies:] yes, the

antibiotic. I have not started to take it yet – did take it 2 years ago

successfully and am seeing the doc this afternoon for a script – just wondering

how it will work along with SCD from anyone who has done them together

the yogurt or any milk so I am looking for a probiotic – thank you for your

I was on Xifaxan for a few months before I started SCD, and it did turn the

volume down on my symptoms. If it works for you and your doctor supports it,

then perhaps it's a good choice.

THANK YOU, ! I really wanted to hear from someone else who had

success going in this direction!! How has the diet worked out for you? I

see you are still on it after 3.5 years - are you symptom free? CD -

chronic diarrhea? I still need to learn the acronyms used here. :-) Did

you go through the backtracking/resurgence of symptoms at the intervals

discussed the first year? ~ Janine

Hi Janine,

Happy to share! CD = Crohn's Disease (at least for me, it does). I have been

doing well on the diet. The symptoms I continue to have are probably all

functional (i.e.Irritable Bowel rather than inflammation), though I'll know for

sure if there is inflammation once I get my results from Monday's colonoscopy.

Yes, Xifaxan helped, but I ended up getting off of it because it wasn't enough

for me. The diet helped more. Are you already on SCD?

I think you mean Xifaxan which is the brand name of Rifaxamin

made by Salix Pharma.
