Guest guest
Swollen tongue, lips sound like a very important side effect. I would get to the emergency room!PJ in OH, 54, IPF 09, Sjogren's 95 Question azathioprine Hi, All Has anyone had problems with Azathioprine, I was put on azathioprine a week and a half ago and I have been having muscle pain and been very tired also. Between all my meetings and pulmonology rehab I am not able to do anything… the only thing I may have gotten accomplished when I could not make my meeting my partner did. My representative who was at this meeting and I had hoped to meet. My partner was able to talk to himwhen explained why I was not there and he then was able to ask him about to join in Brain Baird to co sponsor The PFREA, H.R. 1079. He right away went on the phone started to work on it…so that was my excitement of the day. but now The pulmonologist who used to go to in Bellingham and also uses same treatments Doctor Ragu I guess he worked together with him. Has a complete different picture of what I have from the biopsy report. The other pulmonologist who is mostly a lung cancer pulmonologist just gave me 5 mg of prednisone every other day. When I went last week to my, pulmonologist he wanted me to go right away to Doctor Ragu and was somewhat worried that the appointment was not until the 5th of may. He said we could not wait any longer, I had to go on azathioprine 50 milligrams and up it every other week to 300 mg then do 10 mg prednisone every other day. I have been sleeping all day through this meeting but now my face is getting swollen, lips and tongue…My belly is enlarged I usually have flat belly and itching but no rashes. I quickly looked at side effects and it is a side effect I guess but it dangerous can I wait until Monday.? Or will I wait for my blood test on Wednesday. I have no clue I guess I will go to bed again and see if someone will respond tomorrow. I hate going to the emergency room or should I just quit taking it? Guest guest
Erna, Swelling of lips and tongue is a very serious side effect, in fact it could be an allergic reaction. You need to seek emergency help. Get to the ER immediately. Guest guest
Erna People do have reactions to Azathioprine and thats why you start with very frequent blood testing. If you've been on it a week and half you already should have had your first blood test but if your doctor has an emergency number I'd dial it. At the worst, I'd not take any today and get to the doctor first thing tomorrow. > > Hi, All > Has anyone had problems with Azathioprine, I was put on azathioprine a week and a half ago and I have been having muscle pain and been very tired also. Guest guest
This is my opinion Erna it sounds like you are having some side effects to the Azathioprine(generic for Imuran). I only take 100 mgs daily, and I'm doing ok. Last three or four days have had some muscle problems in my legs. I know if it was me I would not take it. But you should talk to doctor. Hope things get better for you Will be thinking of you Gascoigne SD, 50 yrs old, Renaud's 2008, IPF 7/2009. Guest guest
Erna, I got sick about that same time after starting Azathioprine. I got very sick. I slept all of the time and ran a fever. I wound up in Whidbey General Hospital with Pancreatitis. They took me off the stuff and I was in there 3 days recovering. I don't know what to tell you about quitting on your own. It might be a bad Idea but get checked. Guest guest
Thank you, all for your responses you are such a great bunch of support. This morning my eyes are so small and my Nasal cannulas, for oxygen do fit in my nose hardly at all and I just got off the telephone with the doctor in my pulmonologist practice. He said to take Benadryl every 4 hours if I swell more and get sicker or cannot breathe at all, to go to the emergency room. He also talked to Phil so he would not what to look for. Tomorrow I will have to see my own pulmonologist and see him. I guess I will go to bed again… Thank you, all Erna 1992 bird fanciers syndrome CAD & MI 2004 ILD 2008 NSIP 2009 Washington State To: Breathe-Support Sent: Sun, January 10, 2010 11:34:38 AMSubject: Re: Question azathioprine Erna, I got sick about that same time after starting Azathioprine.
