Guest guest
Hi christine, Madison was very behind when it came to Physical activity. She hadn;t been able to sit untill she was 10 months and NEVER did belly time, The Physical therapist told us this was due to the heavyness of her head compared to the rest of her skinny body. She didn't crawl untill she was 1yrs. and even then she only scooted on her butt never on hands and knees. She begane walking at 1 1/2 years. We had OT and PT for her and now at 4 years she has been discharged from all and completly where she should be. She actually Takes ballet and tap and happens to be the best in her class she hasn't let asymetry slow her down. Her doc also talked to us about the bone lengthening but they said at 16. The way they explained it was that they don't believe in legthening the short leg because it's very tramatic for the child. But they try to stop the growth of the long leg letting the short leg catch up. How they do this I believe ( and I may be wrong) but they brake the growth plate in the long leg once the growth plate is broken that leg will be done growing by the time it heals. And then over the next year or so the short leg ( which only has 2 1/2 cm to go) will catch up and her growth will be complete. Femals are done growing around 16 and boys at 18. Or so this is how he told it to us. We decided that either way by this age our child will be old enough to decide for herself what she wants it's one of the few decisions we are going to be most happy with since finally she will have a say and we won't regret the decison later in life. I hope this helps a little. Chrissy Mom to Louis 6 Madison 4 RSS Shane 2
Guest guest
Hi , I'm not sure about the asymetry as I haven't even had Noah checked yet, but I do know that he was quite delayed in the gross motors such as the sitting up. He was about 9 months old before he finally sat up and it took him a long time to rollover too. He didn't walk till about 21 mos. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Hi My daughter has asymetry. She was late doing everything. na sat at 8.5 to 9 months. We called her our rag doll becuse we thought she would never sit alone. Then when she started walking she kept falling because of the difference which we didn't know at the time. We took her to a great ortho pedi who made these plastic pieces that go in her shoes. One bigger to compensate and keep her hips and back aligned so her scoliosis would not get worse. He called them braces( plastic piece in shoe or sneakers). He said we would start with those because at the time we were told she had RSS and any non emegency surgerory should waittill she stops growing. He decided to not brake her growth bone so far. Her R leg also curved but after wearing the braces over a year,it has straighted out a little. We go this month becuase she has started on GH about 3 months now. I haven't noticed that her asymetry has changed but I have noticed she is stronger. She will walk a little longer we don't have to carry her from the living room to the kitchen( 15 feet). She now carries her back pack herself. She has grown, I'm just amazed how her arms feel like there is a muscle there in stead of being floppy. She will be 5yrs in January and still can not write her name. Her fine motor needs a lot of help. We work on different exercises for each extremity. We have been in Physical therapy since she was 3 months old. i think and i have the same ortho ped for our children in Mass. I see him dec 19 i can ask for a copy of the exercises her gave us when she was 5 months to do with her. Marcy wrote: My little one has asymetry... what is a good solution for her? Docs have mentioned breaking the growth plate in her longer leg around the age of 13, or having the shorter leg extended. Is that the only way to help head off problems as an adult? Also.. at what age did most of your children start sitting up? My is 5 months and not meeting all her milestones.. but I have been told that's normal for RSS kids. Mentally she's all there and a bright happy baby... just wondering about the physical side of it. On a much happier note... Happy Thanksgiving everyone.. I hope your day is a great one spent with friends and family. > > > >
