Guest guest
My 1st bottle of NAC (N acetyl cysteine) made by puritan pride I purchased locally & didn't have the strong odor of rotten eggs. It was prepared by the pharmacist because I needed 90 pills at 600 mg I received my batch of NAC directly from Puritan Pride last week- Same dosage (600 mg) and 120 pills in the bottle. Stinks like crazy when opening the bottle but I don't taste it. Maybe this batch from PP is fresher!?! Anyone else taking NAC please comment on this. Thanks. Pat
Guest guest
Pat There are different formulations of the binders into tablets and capsules. Some may be formulated in such a way as to mask the odor. > > Are there different kinds of NAC? The one I have does not have an odor. Anyone else taking NAC please comment on this. Guest guest
I take the liquid form of NAC and it smells like rotten eggs too! The smell doesn't bother me anymore and I mix it with grape juice so I don't taste it. C_53_Familial IPF_5/09, Washington HOPE doesn't disappoint! Guest guest
Pat, from what I have heard from this board NAC should smell bad. I was getting mine from Swanson's and it didn't have a strong smell so I decided maybe it wasn't the right kind for me. I then got some from Puritan's Pride and that should smell bad enough for anyone.Beverley Joy,71, Birds and mold 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: NAC-smellTo: Breathe-Support Date: Monday, December 28, 2009, 6:28 AM Are there different kinds of NAC? Guest guest
Hi Beverley, I get mine from Cape Fear Naturals located in North Carolina. This "stuff" is unregulated so it makes you wonder what you're really getting. And I don't even know if it is helping me or not. It doesn't seem to be helping. I think the prednisone is the only thing that helps, because if I cut back on the dosage I get worse. Hydrocodone helps the cough and pain, but for how long. I'm getting tired of dealing with all this. We went to my son's yesterday for a New Years Dinner - was there from 2:00 to 6:00, and I was so exhausted & coughing so hard when I got home that I don't think it is worth going out anywhere. What a life......... Two years ago I looked and felt decent, now I'm fat, ugly and miserable. Sorry for complaining - I know there are others worse off than I am. I just have to vent once-in-awhile.
