Guest guest
, I don't know much about the head circumference issue, but I do know a bit about when to start gh. According to both Dr. Harbison and Dr. Stanhope, the maximum effects of gh are obtained after the child has achieved catch-up growth through caloric intake/weight gain. If gh is started too soon, then it is possible that the effect will be minimal. As Dr. H. says each year at the convention, " These kids can't grow on air. " Their bodies need to make up for the lack of weight which then sort of jumpstarts gains in height. Eventually the height levels off and then gh therapy is begun. Guest guest
hi jessica, my son is 9 and also had a head circumfance below the 3% pecen we just finished our first year og ght and now it is the normal range for the first time in his life. he is doing well in school and has little problem hope this helps cara mom to jacob 9 Malcolm wrote: This is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping there will be someone who knows something about this. It seems to be more rare, that Dasia's head is also below the 3rd% along with height and weight. She was diagnosed RSS without hesitation, having low tone, assym theetry, shoreart turned in pinkys, blue sclera, and cafe au lait spots. And I was reading a Magic article that says if HC is less than 10% at birth and again at 9 months, risk is greatest for significant impairments. Then, in another article, a point was made, HC significantly improved while on GH, raising the question on effect for intelligence. It was found that the greater the change in HC was tied to the younger the age at which they started GH. So, if in fact, the Endo thinks this a good reason to start earlier, what are the risks if Dasia started GH at a sooner time, rather than waiting for a certain weight gain or height plateau? I'll be asking her Endo all of the same questions in Jan, I just want to be prepared and learn as much as I can before I go. And hoping between your experiences, and this Endo, the right decision can be made. Any knowledge anyone has about this would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
Cara, thank you, that is so comforting. I'm glad is doing well. I'll rest easier, knowing Dasia's head size doesn't mean for sure she'll have an impairment. I am also concerned with brain development. I know Summer can still catch up with head circ, but she is predictably following her curve under 3rd so far. > Good luck with the appointment! > > mom to Autumn RSS, Summer SGA, Ocean, Skye > > > This is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping there will be someone who knows something about this.
