Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for sharing. Next time, skip the explanation and just strangle her -- just kidding of course. My wife and I have had many similar encounters with our son, so we know what you mean. I hope this helps. Ken M > > Okay here is a story that happened Yesterday when I was out with Jed, , and Liam. Guest guest
You handled the situation very well. I think people actually think they are helping and being nice but what they don't realize is that they do not know the whole story. Guest guest
I have similar encounters all the time and want to smack the people...I get " oh, she looks like a doll " or something similar a lot. And they can't believe how well she speaks - they are amazed. Guest guest
It's funny, I have gotten so used to people telling me how 'tiny' my kids are that I am beginning to be surprised when I dont' hear it. NOw with Summer being small too, the attention gets focused off of Autumn at first and on to Summer. People think she is only a month or so old, maybe 2 at most and are so surprised how amazingly 'alert' she is and how she has such control! That is because she is 6.5 mos old! Apparently EVERYONE'S baby was bigger than her at a few weeks and they are just beaming with pride at that fact! they do really think she is adorable though...because she is! Then Autumn gets noticed and they are just shocked how old she is although now her hair is really long (a few inches past the shoulders wet, but curly when dry so only about 1 inche or so past shoulders) so it gives the appearance of being older, but they can't believe how little she is and are fascinated by it. One thing remains though, they get endless compliments! I am dreadign the times when they understand the size comments. My oldest son is very small and people can be very hurtful with what they say. Those people I want to smack some sense into and if my kids weren't with me, I may have...OK, just kidding, but I am tired of rude comment made to children. If it is not a compliment, then no one wants to hear it. > > > > Okay here is a story that happened Yesterday when I was out with > Jed, , and Liam. Guest guest
My RSS daughter is about to turn sixteen. First day of school this year a bunch of freshmen tried to hang with her...they didn't believe she was a sophmore. It irked her but she got over it. She pretty much understands her situation and how she wants to deal with it when others make comments. Basically she doesn't have time for them and just ignores them. She tells me they don't really bug her, it just comes with the territory. Her only concern is her lack of appetite and when she can get off the g-tube. She admits she is a little spoiled as far as how easy it makes getting nutrition and calories. > > > > > > Okay here is a story that happened Yesterday when I was out with > > Jed, , and Liam. Guest guest
Hi, I am sorry I don't know you or your daughter's name, but I'd love to hear more about her. There aren't as many parents of older RSS kids on this listserve as some of the younger ones, and it is always nice to hear about others' experiences. My son, , is 12 and also has a g-tube. It will be a long time (if ever) before he doesn't require g-tube feedings anymore, as he essentially eats nothing by mouth. He has had a g-tube his whole life. Where are you from and what are your daughter's stats (height, weight, etc)? How much does she use the g-tube? My son is much smaller than all his friends, but that has never really been an issue for him as far as making friends (very thankful for this). In fact, most of his friends are older than him. His best friend is 15 and in high school. If you are willing to share more about yourself and your daughter, I look forward to hearing it! Kim C.
