Guest guest
Hello, My name is Angie--28 years old. I'm married to a great guy and we have 3 children. Our son is 8, and our oldest daughter is 6 and the youngest is almost 2 1/2 years old. We live in suburbs north of Dallas, TX. I was finally approved to have my surgery and after 3 1/2 years of braces, I see an end in sight! I expect to be having my surgery in 4-5 weeks I believe the technical term for my procedure is Leforte 1 and I'm expected to be in splints for 3 weeks. I'm having is both upper and lower jaw *tinkered with*, but it's really so minor that the computer generated profile I get for the " after " part doesn't show much change, so, I'm excited to keep my face if that makes any sense. I've grown fond of it after almost 30 years of seeing it in a mirror on a daily basis. I also wanted to know if anyone else from my area had Dr. C. Hill (in , TX) as their surgeon. I like him well enough and he's been doing this for approx 25 years, so I trust him, but I do not know of anyone else who has used him as a surgeon. Or is there any way to see if anyone has reviewed him as a surgeon? When the surgery is complete, I will have an overbite, the ability to speak better--some words I just cannot form because of the way my jaw/teeth sit, no more headaches from molars that have a tendency to be clenched and better able to chew food when this is all over with and my teeth/bite will be perfect. After 3 1/2 years of braces and having my Orthodontist and 2 Ortho surgeons tell me that unless I have a surgery to correct it, I'm basically in a state of limbo. I didn't go through the pain of braces to just to make things worse by " fixing " something that had I left alone, I would have probably been fine. So, here I am a month or so away from my surgery date. I'm apprehensive and curious as to what to expect, how much it's going to hurt and how the recovery will be. I'm also worried about numbness and does that last? I was concerned about diet issues (as I am lactose intolerant to high milk fat content) and was curious about zip-n-squeeze products? I think that about covers it for now! Thanks! Angie
Guest guest
Hi Angie, I live in houston and am 27. Iam 5weeks out from my surgery. I had A Laforte I on the upper and a bilateral sagital split on the lower jaw(for over bite and jaw pain). I won't lie to you it is going to be very tough and will hurt but it will be worth the end result. As for your lactose intolerance is it the high milk fat or the lactose? Ensure or Boost(Nutritional drinks) one of them now offer a lactose free variety. A bit of advice try several different brands before the surgery(some are very disgusting; I think ensure tastes like chalk unless ice cold)my favorite is boost! If you are a SAM's club or cost co. member buy your drinks there u'll save about 15dollars a case!(once u figure out which one you like of course). As for the Zip-N-squeese I bought the combo pack of them and found them hard to use due to my numbness and difficulty in being able to suck throught the straw. I have 5 of the pureed food bags and 3 of the liquid bags and the receipe guide all unused if you would like them. I can't really do anything with them now. Just let me know. I used a small plastic cup and put all my " food " in that. It was easier for me, I just poored it in my mouth. They give you a syringe at the hospital but it is a pain to use. The numbness issue is different for everyone, some people get all feeling back some get partial it really is up to your body, Sorry I can't give u a def. answer on that Best of luck to you. P.S. If you have the option get a private or semi-private room at the hospital it is well worth it. > Hello, > > My name is Angie--28 years old. I'm married to a great guy and we have 3 children. Guest guest
, Thank you for the reply. I cannot believe that my insurance approved this. Now my brain is saying " is this really necessary " and truly, I can hardly tell the difference in the before & after picture. Yet, I feel like I need to go through with this, just for the simple fact as I've come this far and when I'm through, I will have a decent bite! Are you finding the healing process going better or worse than you expected? Angie > > Hello, > > > > My name is Angie--28 years old. I'm married to a great guy and we > have 3 children. Guest guest
Hi Angie, my recovery is going worse than expected since I auto- donated my blood, I didn't want to get someone elses blood if I needed a blood transfusion. My surgeon didn't know I was auto donating. After he found out He said I would need 3or more units of blood if I were going to be transfused(If there was excess bleeding) I only gave one unit of my own blood. So I started the op with less blood and it made it much more difficult to recover. Whatever you do talk with your surgeon about bleeding and blood transfusion very carefully it can make weeks of difference in recovery!!! I can't believe my insurance approved my surgery either! If u feel you need to do this ignore everyone else and do it for YOU! When is your surgery again? > > > Hello, > > > > > > My name is Angie--28 years old.
