Guest guest
I would say your first step should probably be to visit an Oral Surgeon (or a few if you want to compare opinions) and see what they tell you. I also have asymmetry as well as a few other jaw issues. I had braces as a kid but no one ever mentioned the possibility of doing a surgery to correct that. 15 years later, I ended up going to an OS on my own accord and found out that they can correct the aysmmetry as well as my underbite and other issues. The next step from there was to go to an Orthodontist and start aligning my teeth to where they should be on my jaw, which will be lined up perfectly when they finish the surgery. That was in January, and now I'm ready to have surgery in 2 weeks. Good luck in your quest for more information! ~
Guest guest
Hi Amazon, In our region (pacific northwest), the orthognathic surgeons won't do a consult with you until you have first gone to an OD and had dental forms sent in. The good news is that the OD's here offer free consults. So my process was different steps. I first went to three different OD's, one of whom made the initial molds free of charge to send to the OS. The OS was covered in my insurance, but I had a copay of like $45. But when I went, I already knew I was a candidate for jaw surgery, just needing to get the more detailed version of what needed to be done. Since it seems to vary by region, you might call your local OD's and OS's and see what their procedure is first. No need to pay a copay to the OS only to find out you need to go to the OD first, and then have a second copay. Just a thought. Guest guest
I believe I would start with my regular dentist, and ask about a consult with an oral and maxillofacial, or a plastic, surgeon.
