Guest guest
I need some food ideas what to take on the plane as we fly to Hawaii. We are hoping to eat before we go. Long flight. When I picked up bulk foods the airport people threw it out. So bought all prepackaged dry fruit and that seemed to be better. But need ideas besides dried fruit. -- Jodyscd 5 yearsceliac sprue, pernicious anemia, heavy metal toxicity nummular eczema " Strength does not come from winningYour struggles develop your strength. Guest guest
Jody, if you can eat eggs, hard boiled eggs travel well. Guest guest
am flying to hawaii and everything has to be pre-packaged, when i bring from home they discard them Hey Jody! Some foods I like to fly with that will be fine in a cooler all day: -Hard Boiled Eggs -Cheese Cubes & " crackers " -Cheese crackers -Avocado (if you don't mind the funny looks when you eat it right out of the skin!) -Bananas -Almond Bread with Almond butter and jelly ( " PB & J " ) -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone But need ideas besides dried fruit. > > -- > Jody -- Jodyscd 5 yearsceliac sprue, pernicious anemia, heavy metal toxicity nummular eczema " Strength does not come from winning Your struggles develop your strength. Guest guest
I've never found that to be true. Is it a new rule? Guest guest
I think this is true and not a brand new rule either. A friend of mine is diabetic and they go to Hawaii periodically. They are always confiscating her food and telling her she has to buy the junk in their airpport store, even after she tells them she's diabetic and can't eat any of it. They say that's her only choice. No, I don't know what she ends up eating! am flying to hawaii and everything has to be pre-packaged, when i bring from home they discard them
Guest guest
Yes, I would second the hard-boiled eggs. They were a great snack/meal on my recent trip. I also brought some canned sardines (a little messy if you're going to eat them on the plane, but not too bad in an airport, like if you have a layover or something). TSA didn't seem to mind those even though they're packed in oil and are more than 3 ozs. The Earth's Best " first foods " baby food jars are 2ozs, so if you were to buy a couple and throw out the food (or give it to someone with a baby!) you could fill those little jars with nut butter (or really anything else, even yogurt) and put them in your zip-lock bag for liquids & gels. I brought one with pecan butter and had no hassles with TSA. misha > > > I need some food ideas what to take on the plane as we fly to Hawaii. We are hoping to eat before we go. Long flight. Guest guest
What airport did they take all your food away? I bring food in my purse and tell them I'm planning to eat it all on the plane. Maybe if you tell them it will all be eaten and none of it will get off the plane with you when you land in Hawaii, they will let you bring it? I think they're only nervous about bringing in food that might introduce foreign bugs/pests. I've flown to/from/through the US many times like this, although not to Hawaii. For packaged foods it's pretty difficult. Packaged nuts, dried fruit, beef jerky, cheese, vegetable chips, and coconut chips are some ideas.Kathttp://scdkat.com I need some food ideas what to take on the plane as we fly to Hawaii. Guest guest
Jody,This might be sneaky, but buy yourself a vacuum seal-a-meal type machine. Make dummy labels to put on the various things you are bringing. Make small cuts so that it tears easily to open and pack them like you bought them. You could even make up a phony receipt from a 'specialty shop' to prove you bought them. Ha! That way you could bring your own home made crackers, buy and keep sealed some safe cheese, or cube and seal your own, maybe some nuts, dried fruit leathers, etc. You might even make some flavored dehydrated veggie chips.I don't usually advocate breaking rules, but if they are wanting pre-packaged, I don't see why you can't do that.Amelia To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, September 20, 2010 1:45:10 AMSubject: Re: Re: food ideas for plane trip am flying to hawaii and everything has to be pre-packaged, when i bring from home they discard them Hey Jody! Guest guest
I just got back from my honeymoon in Hawaii and brought all sorts of food with me on the plane with no problems. We flew into Honolulu and then into Lihui. I brought cheeses, canned salmon, crackers, turkey burgers, avocado, mustard, butternut squash and various cookies and breads. The only thing pre-packaged was the salmon. They didn't even blink an eye. Bags went through security with no questions asked. It was the same on the way back too. I flew United and Hawaiian air. Have a great trip! Stacey

Guest guest
Ha, ha, ha... You guys are making me out to be some kind of alien with fingernails like blades of steel... Ha! I'd never make it through security. I always carry a small ziplock with plastic cutlery, salt & pepper packets, and my infamous <stolen> honey packets -Joanna > > >Hmm, very long fingernails?
