Hi Char!

Just take it one day at a time. You have some time before your surgery. Read a

little if

you like, take a few days off if you need to. Take in what you can in little

doses. :)

I just had surgery July 20th (upper only, opposite of you). I am happy that I

learned so

much from this site. I was better prepared for things and I knew what to

expect. And

really, I have been doing great, no major issues in my recovery, it's been

pretty easy so far.

Not everyone has a hard time or major complications, so don't let it scare you

away.

And please feel free to ask questions or to air fears, etc. This board rocks

and we're all

here to help each other.

Good luck!

Cori

Don't be scared. I just got my lower jaw moved forward on July 28th.

Today, I am 12 days post op and feeling good. I did get pneumonia in

the beginning but I was not drinking liquids as I was supposed to.

My body could not fight the virus. Having pneumonia was actually not

that bad. I took a stronger antibiotic and I got rid of it. I am

already used to the fact of the liquid diet and it's not that bad. I

lost 10 pounds so far so it's kind of nice. Again, once you get over

the first few days the rest is easy. Yeah, I can't talk my best and

at work no one understands me but its for a short period of time on

our life's and hopefully its worth it. With me it was hard because I

didn't really notice my overbite. I have a decent chin that hid it

so I thought I would have regrets. As of now it looks like my teeth

will line up in a couple of months and look great. We'll good luck!

Char - Welcome to the site and to the group! I'm having my lower set

back and probably my upper advanced next summer. I just got my braces

on today (brackets on two weeks ago, and the rest of the hardware put

on today). I started reading posts on this site in May after I

decided to go through with the surgery, and have done so much

research on my procedures on the web, that I feel much more at ease

with everything. My OMS says I will be VERY well prepared for

everything from the surgery to the recovery period, and he is

thrilled. The amount of info on this site can be mind-boggling so

take it slow. Ask your Surgeon lots of questions; mine told me that

NO question is ever a dumb question. Your Surgeon will give you post-

op instructions and you should read them; ask him/her to clarify

anything you don't understand. Each time I visit mine, I bring a long

list of questions. What I do: I read the posts on this site and

whatever seems confusing to me is just another question for my

Surgeon to answer. The really important thing to remember is that WE

are here to support you and help you, and that you are NOT alone!

Don't be scared - everything will be just fine. ~~~ Diane
