Guest guest
Hi Diane, Just thought I'd let you know I have the opaque " O " rings and they don't absorb the color of food. The clear ones do discolor. At least these were the hints my OD asst told me. And I've had no problems with the opaque ones discoloring. The wire ties can move around and poke the mouth. However, there are times when they need the wire ties. There was time they were having trouble with my heavy wire staying in one bracket, the o ring wouldn't hold it in. Right now I still have the wire ties on top. For surgery they had taken all the power chains off and put wire ties on. They removed the bottom ones at the OD 3 1/2 weeks post op, but I still have the upper ones and hopefully will get them off on next visit (Aug 15). It can change as you go along, too. I was like you I debated about the color o rings (such red and green at Christmas - suggested by the OD asst), but decided I'd pass on the color ones. Each time they change the o rings they ask what color. One time they put gold ones on (as I have gold brackets), but I didn't like them as they looked more like brown and were more noticable. They'll let you make the decision. Shirley
Guest guest
Colors of o-rings and chains I've had: Maroon (for Homecoming; maroon and silver are our school colors) Rose (pretty!) Light blue (looked nice at first, but discolored a lot) Metallic purple (I really like the metallics, they don't discolor) Metallic blue (blue is flattering, whitens the teeth) I can't wait till October; I'm going to do black! :-# Luna
Guest guest
For Halloween -- no orange, to go with the black? While I was not so adventurous, unless you're in power chains you can alternate black and orange O-rings, I think. Guest guest
If you have a wire tie that's bothering you particularly, they can also put an 0-ring on top of it. That may smooth out some of those rough ends for you. Or at least, they were able to do that for me in some tough moments. They also can do wonders by bending the ends of the wires back and under the archwires. I had the wire ties almost all the way through my ortho -- but not usually under the power chains. They didn't bother me much at all, except once when the tech got them twisted in too tightly. Those teeth throbbed for more than a week -- but the fault was my own. I should have gone in and told them the teeth were too tightly tied and that I was actually hurting. My ortho, sweet man that he is, told me more than once, " Teeth actually move better when we're kinder to them. Guest guest
My OD was a Michigan grad and knew I went to Penn State. I had an appointment with her the day before the big Penn State-Michigan football game. She giggled the whole time she was working on me. When I got home and looked in the mirror I discovered to my horror that she put blue and yellow o-rings on me. I had to walk around for an entire month with Michigan colors on my braces. I guess it worked for her, Penn State lost and Michigan went to the Rose Bowl that year. I had pink o-rings when I was pregnant with my daughters. > > Colors of o-rings and chains I've had: > > > > Maroon (for Homecoming; maroon and silver are our school colors) > > Rose (pretty!) > > Light blue (looked nice at first, but discolored a lot) > > Metallic purple (I really like the metallics, they don't discolor) > > Metallic blue (blue is flattering, whitens the teeth) > > > > I can't wait till October; I'm going to do black! :-# > > > > Luna
Guest guest
, Oh man, if they tried to put Bobcat blue and gold on me, I'd refuse to leave the office until they changed it to Griz maroon and silver! Luna
