Um, , just a quick question here.....

Would Austin be the other windy city because of the protein shake that gives

you gas??

I've replaced my Starbuck's addiction with an addiction to protein shakes

made at a local gym. It's a huge gym and they have a protein shake bar

called Extreme Blendz. I get a low-carb made with whey protein, water, a

little mocachino flavor that has a smidge of sugar and it's great. It comes

out as a big thick shake. I know I can make these at home, *but* I use them

in the mid-afternoon and part of taking a break from work is getting away

and not having to clean a blender in a 12inch by 12inch sink.

Anyway, they give me gas big-time. Also, the ones I make at home do as

well. I ordered some simethicone pills from Vitalady this morning to see if

that helps. Is it just me ?????

Ah yes, the gas problem. I'm afraid it is a universal issue among protein pervs,

at least those that are willing to admit it. But, the stuff you can get from

Vitalady

works great, trust me I know. I am frankly amazed at the amount of gas this

stuff produces, but there again, amazed how bad I feel when I don't do my

shakes. So, I figure having to chew on some pleasant tasting gas pills is worth

not feeling like crap.

One thing, I found the same stuff at my local Eckerds, in case you didn't want

to pay the s & h just for the Simethicone.

Interesting, for me protein shakes are one of the only things that

DON'T give me gas. Everyone is different.

Simethicone doesn't prevent gas, but if you use it as a chaser, it

will break it into smaller lil bubbles. At least you wont' jet propel

yourself thru your moon roof. LOL!

How much sugar is in the low carb drink? Any lactose?

It sounds like you might like the easy-to-shake-up-in-a-cup Champion

Whey Stack Cocoa-Mochaccino flavor. Here are the stats, made with water,

of course:

1.5 scoops in about 6 oz of water

Servings per 5# container, about 50 $31 for 5# so $0.62 a serving (how's

that compare to the gym?) :-)

Calories 195

Calories from fat 30

Total fat 3 g

Saturated fat 2.25 g

Cholesterol 80 mg

Sodium 165 mg

Potassium 420 mg (as good as a banana!)

Total carbohydrate 6 g

Fiber 0.75 g

Sugars 4.5 g

Net carbs 5.25 g

Protein 34.5 g

It doesn't make me gassy and I haven't heard any one else complain that

it makes them gassy, either, though of course any protein shake can make

anybody gassy from time to time. It does have a small amount of lactose

(the label says " low lactose " ) and I don't know how much, but that can

cause gas for some people. This is the first chocolate-type flavor I've

ever liked, and I think I like it because it's real - the chocolate

flavor is from cocoa powder.

- I have been going through a bout of gas myself (but then when did I

start.....) but I'm wondering if it's my protein also. I'm going to try a

little protein feast this weekend and see if that is the problem then I'm going

to slowly add in what I've been eating one at a time to see which is the

culprit. It might be the protein. I know that if I switch brands I blow up

like a balloon and those (especially) who have had a TT know how uncomfortable

that feels. I'll let you know what happens after this weekend.

If you're having gas with protein shakes, are you making them with milk and

could you be lactose intolerant? I drink protein shakes all the time (the

pre-mixed ones in the can, not the powders) and although I'm a little bit

lactose

intolerant, I dont have a gas problem with them at all. Then again, I don't

know if they have any dairy in them. Also, have you tried Beano before you

drink them?
