-Clare - Sounds like you are having a LeFort 3-piece; it's also

sometimes known as a " Reconstruction Midface, LeFort I " and " LeFort I

Maxillary Osteotomy " . The neck bruising seen in those pictures is

common with lower jaw surgery, and I do believe that there is some

bruising with the upper surgery as well. The skin changes colors as

the bruising progresses from new to healing. The colors indicate the

presence of blood under the skin; at first the bruising looks bluish-

red, and as time progresses and the body breaks down and absorbs the

blood, the color changes to greenish-yellow then brownish. The

bruising also moves down, from face to jaw to neck to chest. As for

how soon you can return to school, your surgeon can give you a pretty
