Late Sept./Early Oct. Surgeries

I'm just a few days ahead of you Molly, and Clare as well. My surgery

is scheduled for Sept. 29th...less than three weeks away now!

I am really excited and not really nervous yet, though I'm sure the

nerves will come. I feel a little weird about the whole thing though

because I don't know what procedures I'll be having.

My OS is very nice and well-respected in the area, but he has only

seen me twice...once in January, when he said yes, I was a good

candidate for surgery (I went in having read messages here for about

two years) and he took molds and x-rays, and then sent me to an OD to

get my teeth corrected first.

Then in early August, my OD said I was nearing being ready, and to let

my OS know. So I made an appt. with the OS, who looked at me again,

said my progress was good, and told me to call him when I was ready

for surgery. (They also did molds and x-rays then.)

When my OD said " You'll be ready in six weeks, " I called the OS again,

talked to a lady in his office who got the surgery scheduled, and set

up an appointment for me to see him on Sept. 20th.

So I actually won't know what they're doing to me until 9 days before

the procedure. Yikes! He has given me laymans terms of lower and

upper, and basically explained the reasoning, but no technical terms,

so I'm not sure what Lefort or BSSO or any of that I'm having done.

Anyway, does anyone think I should be worried that he hasn't explained

it all to me yet, and that I'm only seeing him 9 days before my

surgery? The office lady said he only needs a couple of days to plan

the surgery, which surprised me a little, so at that point I was glad

to see him a whole 9 days ahead instead of just a couple! :)

I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't know what mine was going to be

until I received the packet of consents, etc., from my surgeon. It

was all cleared up when I went to see him for my pre-op visit. It

will all make more sense then. I'm having mine on Thursday the 15th!

Good Luck ! I can't wait to hear about/see your results! Oh, and its

totally normal that your OR has only seen you twice. He doesn't really need to

see you. And your OD and him likely met os spoke already to discuss your

surgery. Since they have the models and xrays that's all they really need to

work with.

Hi ,

I had my surgery in May. I saw my surgeon every month fo r8 months and every

week for two months and still didn't know until the day before my surgery what

he was actually going to do. He had said what he would probably do, but I had

two options that I could take and when I made my decision he agreed that I had

made the right choice, and we agreed on what surgery he would do.

I thaught it was strange not having a " plan " of what he was going to do until

the day before surgery. Especially when it came to telling my boss as I didn't

know what to say but I went with the worse case senario just incase and that's

what I ended up having.

Cool, that makes me feel better. Thanks! :)

I just got the impression that some folks here had seen their OS

several times, had extensive conversations with them, etc. and I was

afraid maybe I was missing out on something, lol.

Wow. I guess they've done this enough they don't need a lot of

planning...they just know what to do.

Thanks for your reply. That is reassuring that my OS is ok afterall. ;)
