Guest guest
I'm on target to run the NYC Marathon in a month. This will be my 4th marathon, so understand that I'm not new to running these distances. It usually takes about 18+ weeks to train for a marathon. I am now 10 1/2 weeks post op and feel great! I'm posting to let newbies know that life can resume quickly after surgery. Halley 7/21 (lower & implant/upper/genio) fyi, I highly recommend my OS, Dr. Meaders in Atlanta. He is extremely thorough and meticulous. He also made sure that I understood exactly what to expect post-surgery.
Guest guest
Halley, How long post-op did you wait to start running again? Do you ever hear clicking or your jaw moving slightly when you do? I had upper 1 piece on 8/17 and I started working out in moderation, less than two weeks post-op. The only thing I've avoided is high impact because I've tried running and I hear that clicking or the jaw movement. I'm wondering if you've experienced the same. Good luck with the marathon. I have a couple friends and my girlfriend running it as well. > I'm on target to run the NYC Marathon in a month. Guest guest
, Best of luck to your girlfriend & friends! This is my 3rd time running NYC and I think it's one of the most exciting events to experience. I first started walking at about 2 1/2-3 weeks. A mile was big and so was 2. One day I walked 4, came home and took a 3 hour nap!! By 5 weeks I was walking 6-9 miles. At 6 weeks I started running very gingerly, I was a little scared at first and it felt a bit strange on my jaw. I got braver and I felt no pain or discomfort so I went further. I never felt any clicking or movement. I have had a decent amount of numbness in my chin so when I run, I feel alot of tingling. The big side effect I experienced was that my face flushed unusually easily - I tend to think it was some kind of skin/draining issue. It has since resolved itself. If I'd felt any clicking I probably would have held off. The difference in the way I felt from week to week was measurable. Hope this helps.
