Guest guest
you need to check with social security when i went on disability, i had to wait 2 years for medicare to begin as far as i know that is standard with social security i had to pay privately for my health insurance --4 arms and 4 legs-- very expensive a couple of months before medicare started, i started receiving mail from social security about medicare and the options available in the state that i live in medicare part a -- every one gets medicare part b -- your choice, comes out of your social security check medicare part c -- supplemental private program to cover the 20 % that part b does not cover medicare part d -- prescription plan then in the prescription plan, there is a donut hole and a catastrophic stage depending on the cost of your meds -- this goes for all prescription plans because of medicare in the beginning, it is very confusing i think there are some people who go on medical assistance while waiting for medicare to kick in i went into my savings to pay for my medical during the 2 year wait, i did write to several congress people -- both senate and house -- i received form letters in return it really isn't fair when you retire on disabilty, have less income, but have to spend more on health insurance you really need to discuss with social securty for accurate information about your specific case call social security, get the packet, and start working on it you need to be an informed consumer it's not bad enough we are dealing with this !@#$$% disease, we also have to deal with the financial issues i think i read your question wrong -- are you already on ssdi? yes ss will send you info regarding medicare -- it is a book Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: MedicareTo: "Breathe-Support@yahoogrou" <Breathe-Support >Date: Wednesday, December 16, 2009, 5:25 PM Hi gang, Have a few questions for the experts. Guest guest
Joe, You will begin getting mail from Medicare sometime in the next couple of months. I became Medicare eligible in November of '08. They started sending me information I think in August of 08. You will have choices and decisions to make, choosing a supplement and a Part D prescription plan. Medicare.gov has a lot of information. It really is a good resource. There's a ton of stuff there including tools to compare plans in your area. That's where I'd start reading to get the hang of it all. Joyce is right. It is confusing especially at first but for me at least it was a HUGE relief when Medicare kicked in. Guest guest
Joyce, One of the reasons I'm still working, until I can afford to sell my house, I can't afford to be on disability because of the healthcare situation. Is that sad or what. I just don't want to lose my independence. Guest guest
Joe, If you liked United check and see if they have a Medicare Advantage Plan. When my husband was on disablity, I was and have been on Humana. Since we both went to the same Pulmodudette, cardiodude and oncologist, I knew those doctors accepted the Humana plans (humana is big in AZ). The Medicare Advantage plan was rediculously cheap and covered everything he needed to be covered for. He passed after four months but they handeled everything great for those four months. The part d for prescriptions sucks but its sucks no matter what you have Dyane Phoenix > > > From: JOE & JOANIE LAMENSKIE jjskie@... > Subject: Medicare > To: " Breathe-Support@yahoogrou " Breathe-Support > Date: Wednesday, December 16, 2009, 5:25 PM > > > > Hi gang, > Have a few questions for the experts. Guest guest
Joe, I would also suggest calling Caring Voice. (www.caringvoice.org) They were a HUGE help to me in choosing a plan. One of their insurance counselors spent lots of time on the phone with me going over my options and helping me with research. They are an awesome organization and resource!
