Guest guest
Hi Don, 4 days is too soon to judge the diet, but hang in there. It is good that you are feeling better. Some prune juice would be better than prunes at this point. You can boil it down to 1/2 volume and drink a little of it. Be careful. I went overboard on this and it wasn't fun, but it works! PJ > > Hi! My name is Don and I have been suffering with Ulcerative colitis for over 3 years. I have also had heartburn for most of my adult life. I was hospitalized in 2007 for my first flare and went into remission until early this year. I stopped taking prilosec last Thursday after buying the book and started the diet on Saturday. I have been feeling really good and have no heartburn now but am worried. I haven't had a good BM since Sunday. 4 days! Should I be concerned? Should I get some prunes? Anybody else experience similiar effects after starting the diet? Thank you for you help! > Don >
Guest guest
Thanks PJ! I am convinced that this diet will work for me. I haven't had any heartburn since I started! That is just amazing to me. I will try the prune juice. > > > > Hi! My name is Don and I have been suffering with Ulcerative colitis for over 3 years. Guest guest
Great! Just make sure it has no additives and is not from concentrate. I use Sunsweet brand. PJ > > > > > > Hi! Guest guest
Don, I've been on the diet since Jan 2008 and I haven't had a BM in 8 days. That's just how my body works I guess. I mean, I would think I would be going more often now, but I'm not. If I get to feeling constipated, I will try eating stewed prunes. I cook 5 prunes per 1 cup of water then blend it into a drink; drinking one cup each morning and night right before bed until I start having BMs again. That usually helps, but not all the time. I tried taking magnesium every day and that didn't help. I think I'm just a lost cause. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - Jan 2008 > > Hi! Guest guest
Hi Misty. I was worried after 4 days! It's just that I've always gone #2 more frequently and with the UC I was used to 15 times a day. I feel ok and was just looking for some advice..like " should I be worried? " . Constipation has never been my problem. It sounds like it's something that has troubled you. I hope you can figure it out. You're not a lost cause...keep trying different things. Something will work for you. Don't give up! > > > > Hi! My name is Don and I have been suffering with Ulcerative colitis for over 3 years. I have also had heartburn for most of my adult life. Guest guest
I went 9 days without going right after starting the diet, but then returned to once daily. I read somewhere that Elaine recommended adding almond flour baked goods early in the diet if constipation became problematic. I did that. Whether it worked for me or it just evened out on its own with time, I don't know. But it did sort itself out. I am gathering that some sort of change in the early days is normal. Guest guest
Hi all, I just started 4 days ago, too. I have Crohn's and have had for it for 13 years. I just had a surgery in July following a perforation and surgery in March. Anyway, I didn't have a BM for the first 2 days even with my Miralax habit. I am guessing Miralax isn't on the diet, but it had been an absolute must for me, so I continued it. After day 3 on the diet, however, I had to stop because I actually had D. Not sure if this helps answer your question, but voila. Hopefully the prunes work for you. > > > > > > Hi! My name is Don and I have been suffering with Ulcerative colitis for over 3 years. Guest guest
Welcome Don! I was taking prilosec too- I had been on it for probably 10 years. Then about a month into the diet I just quit it cold turkey. Guess what... no heartburn! Makes you want to shout from the mountaintops, huh? Guest guest
Thanks Joanna! Yes this is wonderful! I saw my bottle of Tums today and just laughed. Never again...hopefully! It's great to have this list too! I feel so encouraged! Have a good one! Don > > > > > > > > > > Hi! My name is Don and I have been suffering with Ulcerative colitis for over 3 years. Guest guest
Thank you Don. It's just such an aggravation. When I have C, I gain a weight and retain water really bad. I'd just like to find something that would work for me so I could be regular without having to rely on meds to make me go. Sounds like SCD is already helping you. Remember, you'll have ups and downs. I was somewhat regular for a while. I go through cycles with it. I'm symptomatic right now and one of my symptoms is C. I guess until my disease goes into total remission, I'll have it. I hope you continue to have such less frequent visits to the bathroom. Sometimes if I just can't go, I'll drink 2 TBS salt diluted in 1 quart of water and that will usually do the trick but not always. Misty > > Hi Misty. I was worried after 4 days! Guest guest
Same here! I was on Ranitidine, and then Protonix (supplemented with Rolaids) for years. I stopped cold turkey around 2 months into the diet with no problems :-). I get an occasional mild case of heartburn, but it's pretty rare and more then likely caused by something I ate. Guest guest
I'm having the same experience Holly. Hardly any heartburn at all, but if I do get a little it's bearable. I love not being on any meds! After a week on the diet I feel pretty good. I'm still having some problems with diarrhea but I'm hopeful that will subside. Good luck and take good care of yourself.
