Lol Joanna!! So was the yogurt already done fermenting? It was just cooling off

in the fridge? If so, I don't think any bacteria would've grown. I'd only be

concerned if the fly was there during fermenting.

Ugh... I DON'T KNOW! That's the thing. I didn't see the fly before I put the lid

on. It fermented 24 hours. I put it straight away in the fridge. And then when I

took it out of the fridge and upcapped it- there it was! Nasty thang.

Use it for cooking. That's get rid of the potential problem. And you don't

have to throw it out.

Pasta tomato cream sauces, omelets, soups, etc.

Flies land on food all the time and people still eat it. You could always use it in cooking, like Mara suggested. Now if it were a cockroach...barf. If it was still waving its legs, I'd be more worried about how much of my yogurt

that darn fly ate, LOL.

was a friggin' fly on it's back waving its legs around at me! WHAT THE HECK?!?

Could it still have been alive from when I put the lid on Wednesday night????

If not, and it had just flown in (it was still alive...) how did it get in

there?! Could it have germinated tons of scary bacteria into my yogurt??!? There

was a slight cream top and it was balanced on top so I scraped it off right

away.

My nurse daughter, the very one who came home after taking Microbiology and

said, " Mom, wash your hands! WASH YOUR HANDS A LOT!!!!! " after becoming a mom

herself practices the 3 second rule. You know... if it didn't stay on the

floor longer than three seconds it's okay to give back to the baby w/o

disinfection?! :) I'd scoop the fly out w/ a large area around it and pretend

I never saw it.

Love y'all and your laughter,

Well, I will own that it's an interesting first message to read when I

get up in the morning!

I'd say that first of all, removing the offender was an excellent first

step.

I think the other thing I'd suggest is to drip, or drain, the yogurt

really well and use it in something baked. That way, it gets re-heated,

and any yucky germs are killed, BUT, you don't have to throw it

out!

You'll feel better about using it cooked. And after all, if it was

still waving its legs, it couldn't have been in there very long!

Well, I'm feeling better that I didn't chuck the whole thing now :)

Thanks for the advice- cooking with it sounds great!

Ha, ha. Good point ! And like Dawn said, I should be worried about the fly

eating my delicious yogurt! Well, you have to give it credit- of all foods to

land on, it sure is a tasty and healthy one :)
