Hello - Today I got my spacers installed & believe it or not, they're

not too bad! They feel like I have food stuck in-between my molars,

which for me, happens rather frequently. Anyway, thought I'd let

you'all know. Tomorrow is my appointment with my wonderful OMS - a

question & answer period. Let you know how that goes! ~~ Diane

Hi Diane!

How are they today??? I felt fine the first day but then when I tried to eat

the next morning I

wanted to die they were so sore! :) Alot of people say that spacers are the

most painful part

of this WHOLE process, and 15 days after sugery I would have to say that it

probably WAS my

most painful part. :) Good luck!

Right now (5 days pre-op), I would have to say the most painful part

is the surgical hooks! They feel like little needles all in my

mouth. I have enough wax in there to start my own candle shop!!

Just something else for you to look forward to, I suppose. Oh well,

just hang in there...if a wimp like me can do it, anybody can!

Cori - I feel fine today too!! They are just a big nuisance, as it

feels like I have some food stuck in-between my teeth. I only have

to put up with them until next Tuesday though. ~~ Diane

Angel - The spacers still aren't painful today, so I guess I will

have to look forward to the hooks' special brand of pain and

torture. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to! LOL!

I have to agree with you...I am 1 week pre-op and just

got my hooks in yesterday...Three on top and three on

the bottom. I hurt so bad at times I think I am going

to cry!!! My OD used the heaviest wire for my braces

this time when he made the hooks, and he almost had to

stand up he was putting so much force into getting the

wires in there nice and tight!!! I haven't been

putting any wax on my hooks because I feel that just

prolongs the suffering...my personal feeling is to get

the pain out of the way and to build up callouses

(just my feeling on the matter!)

I am glad to know that I am not the only one having

trouble with the hooks right now :)

Are you having trouble eating/drinking with them in?

Before I got them in, I could at least close my mouth

while chewing for PART of the time (most of the time I

have my hand over my mouth while I chew), but now, I

CANNOT chew with my mouth closed and whatever I am

eating, I can only take a few bites of it before it

just hurts too much. The bad part is, friends/family

are taking me out to dinner this weekend - Saturday

and Sunday night...I want to be able to enjoy the food

(Cheesecake Factory has my favorite dinner of all time

- Salmon, Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus - at least it

is mostly soft)!

Hopefully it gets better!

Put some wax on, girl!!! I figure the hooks aren't gonna be in long

enough to warrant toughening up. Take the whole strip of wax, mash

it and just run it all the way along the top and another all the way

along the bottom. You'll be able to enjoy dining out, but just be

aware that it takes a little work to dig out all the wax, so don't

plan on slipping into the restroom to brush. Happy eating!!!
