Guest guest
, Sounds like you're off to a good start! Expect to be tired when you get done. It will get better as your body gets used to the increased activity but it will take awhile. I still need a rest when I get home from the gym and I've been at this daily since September. It takes more out of us than it does out of the average healthy person. Be patient with yourself, you're doing a good thing! It felt good to exercise but I’m definitely feeling tired tonight. We did warm-up exercises and then three pieces of equipment and some exercises using weights (I chose to start with 2lbs) and then a cool-down. She had me do 6-min on each piece of equipment. The bike had a really nice backrest on it. I had my O2 set at 3lpm and cycled fairly slow and stayed in the 90s on my sats. Then came the treadmill. Believe it or not I have never been on a treadmill! That was much more difficult for me, she said I was pulling the belt instead of walking normal. Then she took my sats and they dropped to 88, so we turned up the O2 to 4lpm and a slower walk setting and I came back up to 92. I started getting the hang of it and walked more normal. Then I used something called a Nu-Step and did okay on 3lpm. The others in the class were men all heart patients. It was a small class but they said normally there are more, must have been because of the holiday. All-in-all it was a good class and I look forward to Wednesday. Guest guest
Thanks Pink, I've never been much for exercise either, always the last thing on my list to do. But I really enjoyed it today and it will be even better when it gets easier. C_53_Familial IPF_5/09, Washington HOPE doesn't disappoint! Guest guest
, I'm glad thatyou got started on your rehab. It sounds like they have more equipment that they used to or maybe it is different in Bremerton than it is in Port Orchard. I remember there being more men. I think that that is because more men have heart attacks. I was there for my heart but it was a good program. Too bad I didn't keep it up.Beverley Joy,71,PF, Chronic HP, birds and mold 1-09,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Exercise Rehab Class todayTo: "Breath Support" <Breathe-Support >Date: Monday, January 18, 2010, 5:39 PM Well today I had my first exercise rehab class. Guest guest
I really need it but Medicare and my insurance would have to pay for it. I tried to figure a way to move into that apartment. After I paid my bills I wouls have $36 left fpr gas and food. I guess I'll have to wait for my house to sell.Beverley Joy,71,PF, Chronic HP, birds and mold 1-09,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia Idaho From: worth <hope2thend (AT) yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: Exercise Rehab Class todayTo: "Breath Support" <Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com>Date: Monday, January 18, 2010, 5:39 PM Well today I had my first exercise rehab class. Guest guest
, Glad to hear you started rehab. I graduated on Dec 28 and had PFT's done on Dec 30 which showed a slight improvement on lung volume. The rest was the same, 30%fev,fvc-(I think those are the abbreviations). Anyway pulmo dude said, " your breathing is still sucky, but you look great " -(he is so TECHNICAL!) Yesterday I started pulmonary maintenance program which I will go to 2x a week. You basically monitor yourself, fill in your chart and the RT'S are there if you need help. I have also started going back to my gym on weekends, although I don't want to try anything challenging there-I feel safer at the hospital. Rehab is great though and you will get used to it- nne, ILD-6/09, Sjogrens,RA,Polymyositis-11/09 > > Well today I had my first exercise rehab class. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Thanks for the encouragement, today was my second day and I'm to 7min on each machine, whoohoo! You mention that you go to the gym everyday. Do you go to a regular gym? Or the rehab gym where you took your classes? C_53_Familial IPF_5/09, Washington HOPE doesn't disappoint! Guest guest
, I go to the gym at the Duke Center For Living. I'm enrolled in the graduate pulmonary rehab program. This is the same gym where I attended the "intensive pulmonary rehab" program. We're all there working alongside one another at the same time, intensives, graduates and the peri-ops (those preparing for or recovering from transplant). It's pretty tough to feel sorry for yourself and make excuses surrounded by people who are working as hard as you are and some of them in much rougher shape medically. The CFL fitness center is run by the pulmonary staff from noon to 4:30 M-F. Those are the hours when my gym membership is valid, it costs me $115 every three months. Mornings are for the cardiac folks and evenings and weekends the gym is taken over by healthy people who want to get in shape.
