Guest guest
Hi , I had my braces in for 10 months prior to surgery, i'm five months post op now and will ahve my braces in for another 4-5 months. I was born with a cleft lip and palate which resulted in an under-developed upper jaw, small, flat nose. My surgeon said that he could do both surgeries in one go. I had upper jaw surgery, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone and bone graft surgery all combineed into one surgery. It took just over 14 hours but it was worth it, my surgery went ver well and i'm pleased with the result. I was in hospital for ten days. Personally I would recommend combining them as it saves going back to do the nose job. I still need some work done on my nose but that will be done in a combined surgery with the other things I will ahve done. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your response! I'm just concerned about having everything done at once, since I've seen some people saying that their noses are different after jaw surgery. I need both upper and lower, so I wouldn't want to get a nice new nose and have it screwed up by the jaw surgery. I guess I'll see what comes of the next consults. I popped 2 more Alleve this morning, and my stupid teeth STILL hurt from the braces and spacers. I was really hoping this would fade by now.... brenda ------ Message: 9 Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 06:34:08 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: braces/nose job Q's Hi , I had my braces in for 10 months prior to surgery, i'm five months post op now and will ahve my braces in for another 4-5 months. Guest guest
- Hey, welcome to the Braces Club! Glad to have you aboard! I've had my braces on for nearly eleven weeks now, and I can't wait to get these darned things off; that won't happen until up to six months after my surgery. My teeth have been moving like crazy, thanks to the continuous force wires. Do you have these? Your teeth will feel a continuous pressure all the time, and will move faster. My OD put powerchains on the entire bottom and between my two upper front teeth to start closing the gaps, or as he put it, " space consolidation " . He has changed my archwires each time I've been in and is pleased with my progress. This is my first time in braces - I'm 47, BTW. My surgery isn't until June, but I'm hoping that my wonderful OMS will move it up to at least May. I go back to him on Dec. 13th (my birthday) for a progress check-up and to finalize which procedures I will be undergoing. I have an underbite, and will definitely be having a BSSO to set back my mandible, and he is almost certain I will be having a LeFort 1-piece to advance my maxilla and drop it down in front. He will also be doing neck and chin lipo, as he is a board-certified Cosmetic Surgeon as well. I will be asking for two birthday " presents " from him: 1) definitely do the LeFort, and 2) move the surgery up a month or two. If he doesn't do the LeFort, my tongue will be too long for my mouth, and I will still have Maxillary Hypoplasia. At my last ortho appointment, my OD told me that if my teeth continue to move like they have, he sees no reason why I can't have the surgery earlier. He also told me not to quote him on that, as he hasn't gotten clearance from my OMS to say that. I emailed my OMS a few days ago just to let him know how I was doing. I joined this group back in late April and have learned so much about everything already. My OMS is very impressed; he told me that I am going to be so-o ready for my surgery and will know what to expect both pre-op and post-op. He is also impressed with this support group too - he didn't know that this even existed.// Well, hang in there, " braces-buddy " , and take care. ~~~~ Diane (Idaho) :-) #) [emoticon for: happy with braces] > > Step 1--initial consult > Step 2--consult w/ x rays, photos, and molds.. > Step 3--Braces! > > I'm now officially braced on my bottom row. urgh!
