Guest guest
Our GI doc called me this evening to confirm what the nurse said over the phone today. Ian's Gastric Emptying test and Reflux test were NORMAL! Also, we discussed his ng feeds and asked how they were going. He is very pleased with his weight gain (he's 22 lbs now) - is not concerned about him gaining too quickly at this point - but, more importantly, is very happy to hear that he is not having any vomiting or spitting up during or after his feeds. He said this is a good indication - not a " promise " - but, hopeful nonetheless that he will be able to tolerate G-tube feeds. He did mention that there is still a chance he could develop reflux with the tube - but, we will monitor the situation very closely after the gastrostomy (which will be scheduled within the next week or 2). He asked me if I still wanted to go through with it. I told him yes. Then, I asked him if he still wanted to go through with it and he said " yes, I think it is a good idea for Ian " . So - there you have it. I told him that emotionally it was a hard decision considering it is an invasive procedure - but, that I think it is the right answer. He agreed and said that this last admission was a good indication for the need to have one. Ugh - so, the waiting is finally over and we are going through with it. I have a pit in my stomach - even though I'm very happy with my decision - probably though because it's becoming a reality! It's so much easier to talk about it. I'm relieved though. - H
