Guest guest
Hi The amount of prune juice you give Dasia, really depends on how much fluid she tolerates and how strong the prune juice is. If you make your own prune juice it will probably be alot more concentrated than what you buy in the shop. We always used bought prune juice, Liam had quite a bit when he was young. Start with a small amount say 10 or 20 mls and if you dont get a result boost it up. remember to make sure she gets lots of water as well, if her feeds are concentrated, this can be alot of the reason for constipation. Good luck. Jody > > Can someone tell me how much prune juice I should add to Dasia's diet to try and relieve constipation? All her diet consists of is Nutren with fiber, and I wasn't expecting this to happen. It's causing her to not hold down as many feeds as she had been. Thanks everyone. > > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Autos. Looking for a sweet ride? Guest guest
- I've been having constipation issues with Ian too lately. I had the GI doc prescribe him Miralax - of which I give him 1/2 teaspoon a day (it takes a few days to get it going in the system). But, I would also try the prune juice. Try giving her a teaspoon and see what happens. I have no basis for which to make that assumption on the amount - but, if it were me - I would start small. Keep us posted - okay? - H > > Can someone tell me how much prune juice I should add to Dasia's diet to try and relieve constipation? Guest guest
If I could butt in here (no pun intended) we found an amount that worked and used it daily. If Bran still got constipated, then we took the same amount and did it morning and evening. Hope that makes sense! {{{HUGS}}} Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 4 yrs old, 28# 10.6oz, 35 " , G-Tube, GHT)

Guest guest
Hi I think its important you understand the different sorts of laxatives, I would go into it, but its probably easier for you to just do a search of laxatives on google or another search engine. Some are natural, some absorb water into the gut, some stimulate the gut. What you dont want to do is make Dasia dependant a laxative which may give her a lazy or lazier gut. Can you speak to a gastro specialist about her constipation if you cant control it with prune juice. Liam has always had constipation and never been managed well by a Dr, hindsight is a wonderful thing !! We are only now finding out whatis going on with Liams gut, and I wonder if years of the wrong laxatives have made his gut even lazier than the already low muscle tone gut he was probably born with. Then again it may be something else and we will be finding out in the next month or 2 I hope. My thoughts at present would be, if RSS kids already have a lazy gut, dont use something that will make it worse. Hope I havent confused you. Guest guest
Jody - I like your thought process and I'm so glad you posted this. It gives us all something to think about. You know, I'm not one for " medicine " and although I have Ian on Miralax right now - it's not something I will continue with - I'm using it now to keep his bowels going after the surgery with the hopes that once he has more intake of Juices and water PO, he will need less of the Miralax. His GI doc and I spoke of this today at his doc appointment - he wants to see him drink more liquid which is a more natural way of stimulating the bowels - of which, I agreed whole heartedly. Thanks again for providing your point of view. - H > > > > > > Can someone tell me how much prune juice I should add to Dasia's > > diet to try and relieve constipation?
