Hi all,

While we saw Dr H on Friday, she also weighed/measured . No

surprise, she wasn't happy. Becca is currently 109.2 cm and 22.4 kg

(43 inches and 49 1/2 pounds). That puts Becca in the 25% for

height and 75% for weight. Needless to say, we got a lecture on

what/how much we feed her. While I agree that we could push the

healthier foods, I will NOT refuse my child food when she says she

is hungry (which is ALWAYS)!!! She even hates our choice of

vegetables - peas and corn are at the top of Becca's list. Dr H

wants us to push the broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, green beans

and wax beans. Thankfully, Becca seems to like all of these except

cauliflower, so we will try.

Dr H wants us to bring Becca back in 6 months for a bone age. She

is very concerned about early puberty (which runs in my family for

the girls). I have a feeling that we will be doing blood work on

her soon as well.

Additionally, she feels that Becca is hyperlexic. Becca does fit

many characteristics. She started reading at age 3 and is obsessed

by books. She is awkward socially and doesn't quite fit in.

However, the school counselor says that Becca is very advance in her

compassion and will go over to children who are alone and try to

befriend them. I am trying to decide if this is an issue I should

bring up when we have our IEP meeting or not. Becca currently

receives PT, OT and counseling. Becca is currently on anti-anxiety

medication.

Does anyone know anything about hyperlexia? If so, please email me

or post.
