Hi and Welcome.. what's your name or handle? As Marilyn says- we're quite a

friendly bunch so it would be nice to know how to call you :)

Wow- you have been through quite the journey!

I wholeheartedly appreciate your candor and opening your heart to our SCD

community.

What you have been through is so very much..

I would first say.. take a deep breath and pace yourself.

Second of all.. Take it one day at a time..

I find on some days if I start thinking about long term anything about health

and diet and my role in it.. some days I just kind of get paralyzed..

The SCD is totally a lifestyle over-haul but is very well worth it.

It's rough in the begining but once I started seeing the fruits of my labor..

it's just humbling to be honest. Really seeing my own healing journey.

Ask as many questions as you need.

No question is stupid.. Only the one who does not ask is the stupid one! How is

that for my Pesach/passover training? LOL.

So get comfy and welcome!

Jodi

I would go back on SCD until you are feeling better, then introduce one new

food. I'd give it at least 2 weeks. If no reaction, then introduce second

food, and so on. This elimination " diet " is the only way to find out which foods

you can tolerate.

We're here to answer questions.

As for doing SCD long-term -- I'd say yes. My oncologist maintains that

one of the reasons I have done so well during and after my surgery is

because of the extremely healthy diet I am on. She said she'd like to put

all her patients on it -- but doesn't think, even to save their lives,

people would be willing to follow something " as strict " as SCD.

Myself, I think it's sad that people would rather eat junk food than

live.

Hi! I'm also completely new to this group. You have been through a ton...

congratulations on your Hodgkins remission!

As a newbie to the SCD, my understanding and motivation to do the full,

meticulous SCD diet came from this webpage:

http://pecanbread.com/p/intro/nt/motivategrown.html

The words on that page are pretty powerful. Check it out- it might help you

become more clear about the importance of staying on the diet even after your

symptoms go away and you feel better. My understanding is that, when you feel

better, your lack of symptoms doesn't mean the bad bacteria is gone-- it just

means that the strongest, hardiest bacteria are " dormant " . That dormant bacteria

is waiting for that little bit of energy so they can come back to life. The

point of the SCD is, over a period of 1-2 years, to starve out even the

strongest, toughest bacteria. Experimentation with non-SCD foods may give the

stronger bacteria the fuel they need to get going again, and then things could

be even worse.

I'm personally planning to be on the SCD diet (with no illegal foods) for no

less than 2 years. (That said, just a few days ago I was so discouraged that I

considered giving up after only 2 weeks on the diet.) I completely understand

how tough it is to get all the correct information-- thank goodness for this

yahoo group!

In Breaking the Vicious Cycle, Elaine suggests that Crohn's patients stay on the

diet for at least 1 year after they become completely symptom-free-- which is an

average of 2 years. Many people have stayed on the diet much longer. When things

get tough, post here and I'm sure the members will give you support and

encouragement. They've already helped me out a lot!

stomach cramping and bathroom experiences. I didn't want to live my life on meds

and a Dr I know suggested SCD.

patience but also partially because I saw that when I took lactaid my stomach

was fine no matter what I ate.

> I have regreted going off it ever since. While I was on, my energy levels were

better then I could remember even as a child. I was able to think so clearly and

accomplish everything. My house was neat, my moods swings almost non existent

and ADHD or whatever you want to call my scatter brain tendencies, totally gone.

After the first month or so, the ecsema on my hands had gone away and my ever

present sinus infection and fatigue was gone. My acid reflux wasn't there

either. All these things returned within a few weeks of ending the diet and I

knew I had to try again. I was going to start when life got way to complicated

for that due to a bump that had started petruding out of my neck. The 'bump'

ended up being a tumor and so SCD was quite out of reach while Chemo therapy

took over. Now two years in to remission from my battle with Hodgkins I am

determined to take care of myself. Hodgkins and Chron's are both autoimmune

diseases and my Drs saw no correlation but it sure scared me. I started right

after Sukkos and I'm still surviving but I have about 100 questions and need

some support. I'm still deciding if I should stick with the whole plan long term

or if I should try in a month or so to introduce some illegal foods and see if

it was the whole thing that was necessary or maybee just gluten or wheat or who

knows....
