Guest guest
Eileen, Sorry to hear you are going through this ! My flares can be days to weeks, so I don't know if that's helpful to you or not. Magnesium Glycinate is gut neutral so you could take that. KAL makes a legal one and I can get that at Vitamin Shoppe in addition to Local Health Foods stores and on line. Even some supermarkets are carrying supplements these days. If I were cramping like you were, I would be taking the potassium and magnesium just to try and get some in there. Can you call your primary doctor and tell him/her you've had 10 days of D and cramping now and get them to order blood work for electrolytes today ? We have an Urgent Care place near us that the co-pay costs the same as a doctor visit--hope you have something similar if you can't get your doctor to order the blood work. Guest guest
How about trying some ripe bananas for potassium? It is much better to stay hydrated by drinking, and if you are not vomiting you can do this by taking in plenty of liquids- but yes with electrolytes- not just water. Calcium is also good for D. I guess one question is why the D? So many people here have different GI issues- IBD, IBS, Celiac. It could also be travellers diarrhea, or did you inadvertently get some cross contamination with gluten? I would just stick to bone broth soups, gentle on your system foods- I know you are worried about yeast, but some ripe banana may be good. PJ > > ok so day 10 of D except 1 solid yesterday- I now have tight twisted muscles in feet calves and moving to upper legs -I know potassium and mag help BUT mag causes D and since I have D I probably won't absorb them anyway, right?? > so besides electrolyte drink and epsom baths - anything else? do I get an IV - how long is it ok to go like this? I mean I'm always a lil dehydrated but I keep thinking it's creeping up my body and my hubby's aunt has heart issues due to low potassium (already have an irregular heartbeat so I was getting scared as it crept up the body so to speak > thanks > Eileen > how long do your flares last usually??? >
Guest guest
thanks, so funny i had one in hand and was going to say screw the yeast but it was spotted but not like i used to have - I really think the enzymes in my hcl did it looking back and I STUPIDLY took 3/day instead of starting slow as I thought I'd just feel burning if my body was no good with it - had I known D was involved I So wouldn't have gone there so quick!! live and learn and cramp up .. and D... ok -so I'm HATING this now - go away D!!!! sorry had to vent now I'll have to stop for a bathrroom to pee while picking up the kids not D - lol -who cares I want to be full to the brim - still dry lips etc so i guess i need gallons to replenish eileen > > > > ok so day 10 of D except 1 solid yesterday- I now have tight twisted muscles in feet calves and moving to upper legs -I know potassium and mag help BUT mag causes D and since I have D I probably won't absorb them anyway, right?? > > so besides electrolyte drink and epsom baths - anything else? do I get an IV - how long is it ok to go like this? Guest guest
Eileen You mention bright yellow D. Have you had your liver functions tested, did your recent blood work show any abnormalities in liver enzymes? I ask because when I had a blockage in my common bile duct back when I was trying to get diagnosed, my stools turned bright, canary yellow and became more watery -- not D. because C. is my problem now that I have poor peristalsis. Also smelled dreadful, much worse than the usual fecal odors. The doctors I saw before my current gastroenterologist didn't know what to make of my mentioning the bright, canary yellow stool, just ordered stool analysis which always came back OK. But as soon as I saw my current gastroenterologist, and mentioned the stool color in addition to all my other symptoms, he ordered a full workup of my liver and pancreas function, along with a few other scans, all of which indicated a problem with my liver (and my Sphincter of Oddi). My blood work for liver function showed abnormalities, that is for certain! Turned out to be a blockage in the common bile duct. As soon as my common bile duct was drained via an ERCP, my stools changed back to the usual brownish. I keep an eye on stool color, since having Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction means I'm very likely to have another blockage develop in my common bile duct or pancreatic duct. And I pay attention to pain in the biliary tree area for the same reason. Are you feeling more abdominal pain in the upper right quadrant? I can't remember if you've mentioned running a fever; that also was a symptom I had when my common bile duct was blocked. Just a thought. Your taking digestive enzymes, especially if the doses were too high, might have impacted your liver or pancreas in some fashion. Kim M. Guest guest
thanks Kim - it was just bright yellow once i believe- even slightly formed itty bitty pieces just now - afraid to say maybe i'm improving ???- thought so thursday but no luck - lol re: liver/pancreas they were all done and doc said blood work looked great except for dehydration which is a given for me and worse now - no pain but did have SLIGHT raise in temp for a few days -not an issue anymore, so i'm guessing those enzymes sent me flaring- i think!! thanks for all your info - man have you been thru a lot! God Bless you!! eileen > > > > doc did stat bloodwork wed and of course i'm showing dehydration as to be expected but nothing bacterial - i know it doesn't always show - just confusing with that 1 solid bm yesterday and now worse bright yellow D and cramps in body! i will take the supplements > > thanks > > eileen > > >
