Hi,I am from lin.  My son just turned 1.  He started wearing a helmet in November.  We see Dr. and originally started out with the helmet from Restorative Health Services, but about 2 months ago I switched to Hanger.  We are still under Dr. 's supervision, though.  It's kind of a complicated story.  If you would like you can email me at rapptk@... and I can send you my phone number.  I'd love to share the story with you because I wish I had some advice when I was trying to make these decisions for my son.  Hope to talk to you soon.

I'm new to this group. My son has mild tort, mild hypotonia, and has (moderate??) plagio on his back right side. All along, our Ped and PT discouraged us from getting a helmet, saying once he gets more mobile, it will start to self-correct.

He's 1 year old now (9months adjusted as he was a preemie twin born 3 months early --and weighing 2 lb 3 oz) and he is still quite delayed in his motor skills, so he's not demonstrating the type of mobility that our medical professionals were advising would help round out the flat area --hence, they are now for the helmet, albiet very, very late in the game.

I'm trying to move quickly now. We've gotten our cat scan at Vandy and will be seeing Dr. at Vandy around the first of June. I know he sends everyone to Restorative Health for the casting and actual helmet, but I've learned that we also have a Hanger orthotist in town. (I've also learned, unfortunately that we don't have DocBands or StarBands near our city.)

Would any of you kind folks in Nashville/lin area be willing to share some information with me --such as:

-who you went to

-did you have problems with any of these providers

-how old was your child when the helmet was put on and how long will it stay on

-does the helmet bother your child in terms of rashes, sleep issues, and does it interfere with or actually help your child with their developmental milestones.

-did you have problems with the helmet being properly molded and/or fitted and were you able to get it corrected easily and to your satisfaction

-did you get a cat scan or have to see a pediatric neurologist

I know this is lots of questions, so whatever you can see to sharing would most helpful.

Thanks so much
