Guest guest
Hi all, Since I'm finally approaching the end of my orthognathic journey, I thought I'd post some pictures from start to finish. To sum it all up, I started with braces in May 1996. Then my surgeries were as follows: #1 Mandibular advancement (17 mm) using distraction osteogenesis - Sept 2002 #2 Lefort 1 - upper jaw impacted 5 mm, removal of distractors, septoplasty, turbinectomies - Nov 2002 #3 TMJ arthroplasty - part of temporalis muscle (scalp muscle) placed in joints to replace missing cartilage and discs - May 2003 #4 Bilateral condylar reconstruction (15 mm) using distraction osteogenesis again - Jan 2004 #5 Removal of distractors - April 2004 #6 Bilateral total joint replacement - June 29, 2005 By the way, that is my younger daughter in those pictures. She went from being 12 months old for my first surgery to four years old now. I went back to my ortho for the first time today after the last surgery and I'm finally on my way to finishing up. He still has a lot of work to do but no more surgeries! I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. minirascal-
