Guest guest
Great news and so encouraging. I am in awe of how quickly you are responding to the diet. My son has been on it for three months and still hasn't had a firm stool. His progress is much slower even though he never had the number of trips to the toilet nor the severity of blood that you have had. How long have you had UC? He was diagnosed as a child, went into remission until teen years and has been battling it for the past 5 years. My guess is that since he has had it so long, it might take longer for him to heal. He has just started taking LDN for almost a week now and we are praying that this will help push him along the healing path a little quicker!Eileen Mother of 19 yo son with UCSCD 3 monthsLDN 5 days status report hi gang, ok.. so it's been like 8 weeks on the diet.. i have been pretty vigilante with all LEGAL items.. i did screw up in the beginning, where i didnt do it in stages.. but i went from up to 15 bm's a day where it would be all D, blood and water or water/blood only (sounded like i was peeing.. ).. i was really worried at this time.. i was eating all soups that i had liquified, fresh juices.. (started cabbage juice having 2-3 a day) also stopped commercial yogurt ( i had been watching to not have the biffidus..but completely stopped) . read the posts here everyday.. started acidophilous and garlic pills along with my 2 mesalamine pills with meals..3x a day... eggs with apples & strawberries for breakfast (stopped putting bananas in there.. eating about 1 block of the friendship DCCC a day.. so after a two weeks of this i decided i was going to try something more solid.. so i made some almond bread, and after zucchini loaf (YUM!!) ..i would put a teeny bit of the natural peanut butter on there.. some boiled fish w/ sauteed spinach for dinner.. etc, etc... finally... FINALLY.. 2 days ago had my first solid no D, no blood BM!! yesterday, just had some gas that i was WAY happy to let loose.. (obviously this did NOT happen b4.. as i worried bout what was behind the gas so i'de run to the toilet for that..) today, i had yet ANOTHER SOLID BM!! .. i don't mean to be sooo graphic, but i just had to share.. ya'll been helping me out SO much.. its been so encouraging to be part of this group, and i feel great! i'm in the best shape of my life.. the diet takes a little work.. i do like cooking, but i've been cooking A LOT more.. when i'm out i eat like.. vege soup.. ( i make sure to take the potatoes out) a turkey patty w no bun.. eggs ( i try to avoid since i eat them a lot at home.. i've been doing 3 egg whites with ONLY 1 yolk..) .. so i have some acorn squash in the oven as i type this.. psyched! anyways.. OH!! a friend of mine introduced me to LARABARs .. it says no additives.. the ingredients are like .. dates, pecans, unsweetened coconut, etc.. i am waaaayy psyched since i used to snack on cliff bars and granola.. that type of stuff.. so just for a quick somethin, these seem totally legit.. here's their site http://www.larabar.com .. i look forward to continue my healing journey with you all! i found coconut flour.. my next batch of bread will be a trial run for that.. all of this from a NYC rock n roller! .. i would have never thought this.... hahahaa pAUL NYC, UC 4/10 SCD 8 weeks
Guest guest
Hi - thank goodness for progress. However, I am going to " burst your bubble " a little to tell you that some things you are doing could cause potential problems...but knowledge is power, right? Yes, it is no fun to spend a lot of time in the kitchen- but the payoff is worth it. First: no commercial yogurt!! only homemade 24 hour legal SCD. I know you know that one. Second- yes you can eat out but beware of soups that you don't make yourself. Taking the potatoes out of vegetable soup won't eliminate the starch because the potatoes have been cooking in there and the starch is everywhere in the soup. Remember- bacteria are tiny- they don't need a lot of starch to have a party in your gut!! Also- beware of turkey burgers- any ground meat prepared- especially in a restaurant. Those things have all kinds of flavorings and additives in them. A lot of poultry is prepared with broth and natural flavorings even before it gets to the restaurant. I scope out safe restaurants before I go out and talk to the chef ahead of time. Then I know what is safe on the menu and I don't call attention to myself with guests or friends. I usually end up with a steak/fish and steamed veggies or salad. Be sure the steak/fish is not marinated ahead of time, and is cooked in a legal way. Last, peanuts, nut flours- are legal but quite advanced- especially peanuts. Have you seen the pecanbread.com site? There are suggested stages as a guide. Note that this is a site for children with ASD and they do not use cows milk- but we can use SCD legal products as tolerated. Lara Bars are great but also advanced. I did not eat them until over 6 months on SCD, and not regularly. I do keep one in my purse as an emergency- those time when you are starving with nothing to eat and need to stay " legal " . Not all of them are legal- be sure to carefully check the ingredients. You are doing great- and remember- there is a learning curve on SCD and mistakes happen, but thank goodness for your progress. Keep up the good work and keep learning.
