Guest guest
Hi there! May I briefly introduce myself as I'm new to this group and this is my first post. My name is and I need some surgery to correct my lower face appearance. I think this surgery would involve shortening both the upper and lower jaw horizontally, reduce the vertical height of the lower jaw plus bring my chin forward through genioplasty. It's more a cosmetic than functional issue. The biggest problem now for me is where to find a highly qualified doc that is willing to help me with this. For this particular case I think it needs a doc that is delicate and has an artistic eye, and I have no idea where to find " Him " . My question for you out there who have had or are contemplating surgery like me – do you know any maxillofacial/orthognathic doc that you would like to recommend, that you think could help me? I would be very very grateful, to say the least, if you would like to share his name. I'm willing to travel wherever it takes to meet the " right " doc. And if you have any successful personal experience that you would like to share, I would also warmly welcome it. Thank you in advance for your help. This journey is so hard, especially when you don't know how or where to move forward, and it's truly such a blessing that we have forums like these where we can support each other so this journey becomes a little easier. Sincerely, /julia
Guest guest
Hi , First of all, welcome to the board! There is a lot of information here, and the support is amazing. I am pre op, but something that helped me find my surgeon might be helpful to you also. I went to three different OD consults, who were each recommened by my regular dentist. The OD consults in my area are free, so it didn't hurt my pocketbook to have as many consults as I needed to find one I felt was right for me. I would inquire from each OD about who they would recommend as their top choice for an OMS. Every one of them mentioned the OMS I selected as a world class surgeon. Many said he was the best there was, and that people from all over the world come to see him. Some other names were also mentioned as excellent by the OD's, so I knew there were options, but it as the unanimously high recommendation of my OMS that caught my attention. So I think contacting recommended OD's is a great place to start your selections of the OD and the OMS. Where are you located generally? I am from the Seattle area, and my. If you share your location, others might be better able to help you find someone near you who is highly qualified too. Another consideration is that sometimes OMS's only work with certain OD's, or an OD may only work with certain OMS's. So getting several good options might make your " team " decisions easier too. Good luck with this. And welcome! Hugs, Fran > > Hi there! > May I briefly introduce myself as I'm new to this group and this is > my first post. Guest guest
- Welcome to the group! You've come to the right place - this group is awesome; I've learned so-o much about Orthognathic Surgery since joining. I think I have THE surgeon for you. He is not only a board-certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, but also a board- certified Cosmetic Surgeon too. He has thirteen years of experience performing Orthognathic Surgery, yet has the artistic skills you require which make him the great Cosmetic Surgeon he is. He is MY OMS; he will be doing my upper and lower jaw surgery plus some chin/neck Lipo next June. His name is: Dr. , MD, DDS. His office address: 403 S. 11th Street - Suite 300, Boise, ID 83702. Office phone #: (208)344-9115; fax #: (208)344-9113. His web site: www.michaelbaileymd.com . He has an awesome chair-side manner; is compassionate, gentle, supportive, and understanding; and explains and communicates things very well, taking as much time as needed. He became my OMS in late April when my dentist referred me to him to extract an abcessed tooth; at my consult with him, we spent more time discussing my underbite than the extraction. I felt so at ease with him and he listened to my concerns. While waiting for my extraction day, I did research on Orthognathic Surgery (specifically the BSSO) and thought alot about everything. Before the extraction was to begin, I told him that I had decided to have Orthognathic Surgery (BSSO) and asked him if he would do it; he said yes and referred me to an Orthodontist he worked well with. I've been in braces for 3.5 months now. I feel blessed to have both Dr. and my OD taking such good care of me. I hope you consider coming to Boise to meet with Dr. . // Again, welcome to this group! ~~~ Diane (Idaho) // P.S. - for some info on Dr. 's credentials, please visit the following website (access thru Google only): ww2.ktvb.com/global/story.asp?s=1974427 .-- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " " <julia_allegri@y...> wrote: > > Hi there! > May I briefly introduce myself as I'm new to this group and this is > my first post. Guest guest
Hi Fran! Thank you for your welcoming and thank you very much for your very helpful information! =) May I ask you who your surgeon is? And when is your surgery? What is going to be corrected? Anyhow, I wish you good luck and good healing. As I wrote earlier the location doesn't matter so much for me, as long as it's a highly qualified OMS that is willing to take my " case " . I can say that I live in Europe though, so if there is a highly qualified surgeon here, it would make things easier of course. But as said, I'm willing to travel wherever it takes to get to the " right surgeon " . I will also follow your sugestion to see some local OD's just to get their opinions and recommendations. Thank you so much again for your help Fran. Sincerely, /julia > > > > Hi there! > > May I briefly introduce myself as I'm new to this group and this > is > > my first post. Guest guest
Hi Diane! Thank you so much for all of your kindest help! I will definetly consider Dr. . He seems like a great doc. I'm very glad for you that you've found someone you can trust so much. By the way, have you seen any of his before- and after pics? What do you think? And did he offer any patient referals? Please keep us updated on your surgery! And good luck! Thank you so much again, Sincerely, /julia > > > > Hi there! > > May I briefly introduce myself as I'm new to this group and this > is > > my first post. Guest guest
Hi , My OMS is Roger West in Seattle, Washington. Okay as to what he is doing - he is pulling my upper forward, sectioning it for more contour, and also lengthening it (I think I heard 5mm on that, but that may be the amount moved forward) and using donar bone from my hip to augment the gap. He is also repositioning my nasal septum (lower half), but I will need a second rhinoplasty to open the upper airway and that one will also be cosmetic (though the first should be an improvement as well). I am also having lower advancement, rotation and correction of the assymetry, and both side lengthening also, though that one will not apparently require bone graft as it will be rather slid into position along the incision rather than creating a gap as the upper will do. My dentist will be doing the full mouth rehab that means crowning all of at least my front 8 teeth (each uppers and lowers), but more probably all of my teeth. The good news about that is, that since all of the teeth that are visable with a smile will be crowned (to lengthen them to meet the new jaw depth and volume), I can select any color I want for the crown. And that means no bleaching - ever again - yea!! Dr West held conference personally with the OD and dentist (who is one of his former patients, and had a reconstruction similar to mine). It is a fairly complex repair I am needing, so deciding on my OMS was important. Dr West does have patients come to him from all over the world. And he is incredibly nice, giving an extended consult with you. Even with that said, I hope you can find someone closer to you, as that would make your intial recovery much easier, and give you someone to contact should you have complications or need further surgical care. But if you must travel outside your locale, I would recommend Dr West. Several of the OMS that people here are using also sound wonderful. If you are willing to travel, it definately opens your selection process. Good luck with your research! Guest guest
Hi Fran, Thank you so much for sharing. So you've not had surgery yet? When is your surgery date? I hope everything goes well for you. It certainly sounds like really difficult procedures that require highly skilled hands. Does this dr. West have a website or an e- mail? It would be very interesting to read a little more info about him or at least ask him through e-mail what he thinks about my " case " . I think the procedures I'm considering are also very demanding, so every advice of a talented surgeon means very much to me. I'm still in the middle of my researching, but I promise I'll post on what I decide. Thank you so much for your help for now on. And I hope everything goes well for you. Keep us updated as well. Guest guest
Hi , I don't have a website addy for Dr West, but he may have one. I do have his office phone number, and I am sure they would be able to give you that addy if they have one. The phone number in Seattle, Washington, is . I hope that helps!
