I find that when I cook with wine it hurts my tummy? Maybe its the tannins,

not sure. I sure love the way it cooks up in a stew though.

Cooking wine has LOADS of salt in it. Buy an inexpensive bottle of wine to

cook with. I promise the taste will be MUCH better and you won't mind

throwing the left overs out. Normally (OK in MY family I am the gourmet

cook) you would cook with the same wine you are serving with dinner. So, if

you were cooking a roast and you wanted to drink a Merlot....you would use

Merlot in your cooking. You can actually get some pretty inexpensive local

wines at reasonable prices....don't be afraid to cook with wine even though

you don't drink it.

Canned or homemade beef broth, herbs, etc to flavor. I have a tendency to

smell the seasonings and herbs and smell what I am cooking and if they smell

GOOD together then in it goes. LOL It's like I can smell the results in my

brain. Talk about being hardwired!

What could you use instead of wine for the crock pot liquid?

Almost anything. Water will work. Broth. Soup. 12 oz can of Beer.

Water/soy sauce mix. Can of tomatoes w/it's juice. A bottle of chili

sauce. Cider vinegar - although I'd do a mix with water here .

Water, broth, milk, whatever you would use in normal recipes for liquid.

I refuse to cook with wine, or eat anything that is cooked with wine. Not

only am I a non-drinker, but I swear I can taste the alcohol in the food. My

husband says I am nuts. But I literally gag when I have tried to eat a fish

fry with beer batter. And I tell my husband straight up that he can't fool

me when we have a roast that I KNOW he used wine in. LOLOL boy does that

tick him off, he thinks he is sooooo smart and sneaky!
