Guest guest
Did anyone seek out a second opinion prior to surgery? I am wondering if it is a good thing to do. Not that I don't trust my surgeon. It's just that I've had dentists tell me that my bite needed to be opened up some, but this is the first time a ortho doc has said I needed jaw surgery. Thanks for your help,
Guest guest
Hi - absolutely get a second opinion - I went to 3 different ortho consults before I was convinced what had to be done for my jaw and teeth. Guest guest
Hi , I was stunned to hear I would need jaw surgery. I went to three OD consults before it even sunk in that it was necessary. When they each said the same thing, it was actually comforting in a way. I knew it was not just a hypothetical benefit, but something different competing OD's agreed with. The OS opinion was the clencher, but I do recommend getting the different OD consults initially as well. It really helps you make up your mind. Guest guest
- I'm probably one of the only pre-oppers that didn't seek a second opinion, only because I have known for a long time that I needed to have this done (a long time - about three+ decades). BTW, I'm a forty-seven year old with an underbite, and in the medical profession. I've had three surgical work-ups in the past twenty-five years, and this time IT FEELS RIGHT. Also, I have the best OMS I could ever have hoped to find, and I trust him completely. I'm the one who chose him and he referred me to my awesome OD - my dentist was never in the decision loop, although he knew I needed this too and was involved in surgical work-up #2 (surgeon was an ass/control freak who thought HE was in the driver's seat on what procedures would be done/gave me no options/took away my choices). My wonderful OMS and I will decide together what is best for me when the time comes to make those decisions (BSSO + probable LeFort 1-piece to be done next June).// A second opinion is always a good idea, but I don't want or need one. ~~~~ Diane (Idaho) > Did anyone seek out a second opinion prior to surgery?
