Guest guest
Hi, I don't have UC but perhaps look into lomotil to stop the D? It is narcotic based. Dr Haas had much success using it to help D issues. Guest guest
I never took steroids for UC so have no clue about that, but for diet, you should see whether hecan stand coconut milk added to his diet. It's delicious and it's uber-fattening, which is whyI need to have less of it. It's very simple to make, albeit a bit of a process, but then you have a quart of it on hand. And if he can, you can also add in things like peach coconut custard, which is sooooo delicious:http://flog.cookingforceliacscolitiscrohnsandibs.com/category/coconut-milk/Peach CustardServes 4500 ml (2 cups) Coconut Milk5 eggs – whisked100 g (¹â„³ cup) honey1 tsp vanilla essence200 g (1 cup) peaches – peeled and slicedPre-heat oven to 150ºC/302 F – baking time 45 minuteCombine the coconut milk, eggs, honey and vanilla essence in a medium size pot and heat, whisking constantly. Do not boil. Cook for 1 minute, then remove from heat and pour into 4 ramekins. Evenly distribute the sliced peaches amongst the ramekins. Place the ramekins in a heatproof dish filled with water, reaching half way up the remekins. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until the tops start to feel firm. Remove from the oven and place the custards into the refrigerator for at least 3 hours before serving.Serve decorated with strawberries or some extra peach slices.Happy Cooking, RamacherWould anyone wit UC who can remember back when they first started doing scd, email me with any wisdom about how long it took them to wean off steroids, have less bms, gaining wt. ect. Guest guest
My daughter took steriods and it did help a lot. She did not have the severe swelling and weight gain that I have heard that others have had. She started on the steriods Memorial Day weekend and was off mid August. You need go down SLOWLY about mg per week. We had a few weeks that she did not reduce her dose as the doctor was playing safe. As for weight gain, it took a good 2 weeks before she started to gain her weight back. It was about 5 days on the intro diet before the D and the blood stopped. Now we are smooth sailing (most of the time). Feel free to email if you have other questions! Guest guest
Hi--both Immodium and Lomotil are opioid derivatives of Demerol. Lomotil is prescription, Immodium is OTC. Lomotil is stronger than Immodium. I have mild UC. I took Lialda with great success--I liked the once a day dosing and I have read a study that came to the conclusion that once a day dosing seemed to be more effective for drugs in this class. ( mesalamines) With Lialda and SCD, I saw a significant change in symptoms after the 3 month mark. However, I was not sick for a long time. I got sick and pretty much started SCD right away. On occasion, I would backslide if I ate something I wasn't ready for, or my body just didn't like. That comes with experience. I never took steroids, and my disease didn't make me lose weight. I had lost a lot of weight because I went through a strenuous divorce. I got fat on SCD and I am in the process of trying to lose weight 2 years into the diet.
