Guest guest
Hi All, OH I am so scared...bleeding. I have a history of CD. I had it severely in 2000-2002 (in and out of h'tal, unable to work....) I have been doing fine and had a flare that put me in h'tal in June. They put me on entocort and I recently had a steroid toxicity to the drug which i had to stop immediately. I take 6-MP Unfortunately due to insurance change, I have been out of 6-MP for several days. So, all at once I stopped the entorcort and 6-MP. I can pick up 6-MP today. I am scared though because I feel crampy and I started bleeding last night PLEASE tell me that I am not going to flare. I have just started a new job that i love---i absolutely do not and cannot get sick right now. As you know, I have to eat 1 illegal meal (bread) a day due to a chemotherapy I take for leukemia. Other than that, I am going to follow SCD strictly. This is a long email and i am sure it is confusing. I am just frightened and....well frightened. Thanks for reading. Guest guest
Hi ! I can't promise you that you are not going to flare, but I can tell you that we are here for you. It is smart that you are going to get right back on the 6-MP today. I know how scary it is to see blood- I have been bleeding for years with my CD and trying to control it. I think the hardest thing for me is that I work so hard to maintain this diet and I still have so many symptoms. But then when I take a step back and see all of the good things that it has done, I know that I have to be patient and let it take its course- even if it is for many years. You are one tough cookie to be battling cancer and taking on this diet. Hang in there and just take it one day at a time. I really hope your symptoms improve- keep us posted!!! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg prednisone > > Hi All, > > OH I am so scared...bleeding. > > I have a history of CD. Guest guest
Thank you Joanna, It comforts me to read that you have had bleeding but not a full blown flare....that is very hopeful to me .It seems like the bleeding is less today :-) > > > > CD-2000 > > 6-MP > > Recently discharged off of entocourt > > >
Guest guest
, It is scary to see this, and I hope you get over it quickly. I was thinking- you eat the bread to handle the nausea- but bread has glutten in it. Do you think there is anything you can substitute for the bread that is SCD legal. Yes, it is totally understandable if you can't, but if you could- then that would help SCD work better. I recently made squash patties with pureed acorn squash, a little pureed applesauce, pureed pecans and coconut oil, baked in blobs on a cookie sheet with parchment paper at 350 until firm. They came out really mushy- and sweet enough to not need honey. I was wondering if something spongy and bland like this would work as well as bread. Eat plenty of bone broth soups and cut back to easy to digest- intro-stage 1 foods until you feel better. Epsom baths and a heating pad on the tummy help too. I hope you feel better soon, PJ > > Hi All, > > OH I am so scared...bleeding. > > I have a history of CD. Guest guest
Hi PJ Thanks for the thoughts and the recipe. I am going to try it. I am very open to other suggestions re: ideas for foods that would absorb the chemo nausea. As you know, I take (oral) chemotherapy for leukemia. If I don't eat enough (and it seems like it has to be some type of " bread " to absorb medicine?) than I become violently nauseated. It is horrible. Anyone understand why the nausea happens? Or have ideas? Maybe some of you have nausea with antibiotics if you don't eat the right foods? Thanks > > > > Hi All, > > > > OH I am so scared...bleeding. > > > > I have a history of CD. Guest guest
, Can you get a prescription for phenergan suppositories? They are a mild anti nausea medication. I used them with my kids when they were little and got a stomach bug, and some people use them for morning sickness in pregnancy.I don't think they would interfere with SCD, and they would be better than bread. The main side effect is a little sleepiness, so taking your medicine in the evening with them would help. A stronger anti nausea one is a compazine suppository, but I think phenergan has less side effects in the long run. Suppositories are good because you don't need to be as concerned about illegals... and you won't throw them up. From what I have heard, chemo does frequently cause nausea- and I don't know why, but I do know people who are also given anti-nausea medication along with chemo. As to foods that mimic bread- the bland spongy texture- baked acorn squash seems the closest. Maybe try half a baked squash with just a little salt for flavor and see if that helps? Guest guest
Hi , How about some ginger tea? Ginger helps with nausea. A few slices of ginger simmered in a cup or two of water, steeped for a few more minutes, strained and ready. You could maybe use this same water to brew other tea leaves? This is probably a 'mild' bandage compared to other meds out there for your situation but I hope it helps.
