I actually can count them on ONE hand. and in those cases it was poor surgery/bad surgeon that caused a messed up RNY. and I know hundreds of RNY from several states where I have lived and from these lists as well and also work with over 500. I know plenty of truly miserable people who never had surgery though. I think you are preaching to the wrong list though - why not tell of the benefits as you see them of the DS to a newbie list where they are impressionable and can easily be influenced? and I still maintain that eating fast food and large amounts is not healthy and that the DS did nothing to change your eating habits, only time will tell. sue
Guest guest
- thank you for sharing and continued good luck to you. I just wanted to comment that the RNY for me has not been misery - ever. I have never thrown up, I eat what I choose to eat (I may choose carefully - but I do choose) and after 4 years I eat like a normal thin person (6 small meals a day). I have not reached my ultimate goal weight - but wear a size 12 or 14 pants and a med or small shirt. I have achieved normalcy. Guest guest
<<while RnY often causes misery.>> All of you in misery, raise your right hand. Okay, put down the Big Mac, and raise your right hand. You aren't holding a Big Mac? Silly me. Is that because you are in misery, or you just make better choices? Choices. I thought so. Thanks. Guest guest
assuming this is for the group as well - I did not start this thread, did. I believe the RNY is superior, and believes the DS is. for all those clicking on 'return to sender' - it ain't me!! address your emails To the Group please. sue >I would not say DS is vastly superior to RNY! I know many that are not happy about their DS and wished they has the RNY. I had the RNY and have lost 111 in less than 11 months with no problems, what so ever! No pain/complications or dumping. I have the quality of life I wanted and regained without any type of misery. I would have it in a New York minute. But, I won't need it, since I've been so successful, but to eat the protein/drink the water and take my vitamins. I went from a 24/26 to a size 4 in 10 months, but most importantly......I have gotten my good health back. I for one will not tell you nor anyone that the DS or the RNY is the better of the two. It doesn't matter to me, except that it worked for me and can for anyone willing to follow the rules! We are all different and go different routes to achieve the main goal....Health! Too each his own and congratulations if it's worked for you and the same to me!
Guest guest
, I am celebrating my 5th anniversary on the 22nd of this month of my open RNY and I want to know what MISERY you are talking about? I have no misery. I eat things I want. I am even still losing weight. Granted it is coming off slowly now, but since I want to lose some more...I am using my tool and it IS coming off. I do NOT appreciate your superior attitude. I want to know where I can ADD more quality to my life? Just what the HECK do you think I am missing out on? My cholesterol has been low normal almost since the beginning of my surgery. My blood pressure the same. Your holier then thou attitude is offensive. I believe that ANY weight loss surgery is WHAT you make of it. And since you are NOT walking in ALL of our shoes, you have no idea that what you say is true. Guest guest
OK, even BEFORE WLS I hated Big Macs! I have NEVER liked Hamburgers. And since I can't raise my hand because I am not in misery....can I finish eating my sushi? Thank you. <grin> Debbie & in Gig Harbor (170cm medial) ladybostons@... http://www.cafeshops.com/copsstore http://www.marykay.com/debbiemcneice -----Original Message----- From: Jacque Holdaway <<while RnY often causes misery.>> All of you in misery, raise your right hand. Guest guest
Thank you Debbie! I so agree with you! I am 10 1/2 year post op open RNY-Dr. Fox/Dr. Oh patient. I have a 40 " common channel. I lost over 150 pounds in 9 months and today after more than 10 years weigh 130 pounds and I am 5'8 " , 52 year old post-memopausal femal on hormones. I eat whatever I want whenever I want. Granted I cannot eat a large amount in one sitting as my pouch is still very small because I chose not to stretch it out. My tool works very very well for me. Yes I have to supplement with 5 to 6 shakes every day, but then I love my thick and creamy chocolate shakes-I am definetly a protein perv! I do my vitamin and mineral supplementing every day and I have more energy than most 30 year olds. I also look much younger than my 52 years. Yes I do dump on milk and sugars, but so what-I am glad I dump-keeps me straight. I have no problems with regain, just the opposite-if I am not careful I tend to lose weight and get too skinny-I currently wear a size 4/6 and can easily drop to a size 2 if I do not eat high fat foods. So just why do you think you WLS is so much better? Lets just see how you are doing in say 5 years. I know for a fact that many DS'ers have many many problems, cannot get their wieght off, many only get 50% off and then have the regain effect. Many throw up for months and months after surgery and are limited as to what they can eat due to the nausea. Your surgery is in no way superior to anyone else's. We each have to decide what will work best for ourselves and how dare you come on this list with your high and mighty attitude! This list is to support each other and to be helpful-not slam anyone because of the type of surgery they have. Maybe you should go to DS list where they just love to put down RNY's then at that list you will have company but while you are there try reading some of the posts-you may just be enlightened and realize that DS'ers have issues just like any other procedure I am so fed up with this WLS bashing and comparing whose procedure is better-we should be supporting each other not tearing each other apart. It should never ever matter what type of surgery a person has had. Good grief this kind of attitude and prejudice is bad as society's prejudice against fat people-you would think that would have had enough of that and learned his lesson Best regards, EJ Pre-op 270pounds today 130 pounds-BMI 19 5'8 " Dr Fox/Dr. Oh Open RNy Sept. 1993 > , I am celebrating my 5th anniversary on the 22nd of this month of my > open RNY and I want to know what MISERY you are talking about?
