Guest guest
I have a doctor who is not only a bad listener but very casual about a lot of things. I think what I'm going to do from now on is take a piece of paper to each appointment. On it I'll write the date and time of the appointment, the specific things I want to talk to him about, in great detail, and room on it for his responses. Then at the appointment, I'll read it to him, write in his responses, then ask the office lady to copy it and put it in my file. Think of all the work I'll save him! Plus there will be documentation in my file of what my concerns are, and when I brought them to his attention. I know doctors are busy. But really. I pay a lot of money, and his casualness is so irksome because I have to go over stuff with him at every visit... I would consider getting a new doctor if I had time and inclination to try out a few more... Every time I've looked for a new doctor, I've asked if I could TALK to the doctor first before having a physical, and the office staff always says no, new patients get a physical first... what a WASTE! I get a physical by someone I don't even know, and try to ask MY questions during the physical, and if we don't mesh, my insurance company will have to pay for another physical by another new person. Seems to me this system could use a big dose of consumer input. My two cents!! Sharon in D.C. RE: Vitamin B12 I'm with you on the tasted stuff and because my numbers were so low (below 300) and I was feeling so crappy, I FINALLY convinced my VERY hard headed family practice Doc into weekly shots for awhile. I " INFORMED " him that I wanted to see MY numbers up in the 1200 range. When he went bug eyed over that, I informed him that not everyone is the same and what makes ONE person feel good will NOT necessarily make another feel good and that since I couldn't OD on B-12 I couldn't see what the big deal was. If he did NOT want the Navy paying for it....to give me a script and I would PAY for it myself. He totally did a 180 on me and gave me my prescription so that the Navy would pay for it. I still feel like crap, but he says it is too soon to feel a difference. He didn't know how lucky he was that I forgot all the stuff I printed up on B-12 deficiency! Then he asked how long I had had sores in my mouth. That nearly did it for me. I told him I had been complaining about this for almost a YEAR! He said...he didn't remember me complaining. SHEESH.....ok....he DID tell me that Doctors were horrible listeners. And he FINALLY did do what I asked him to do. So...when do I stop feeling like crap? I'm not good at anything that must be " tasted " , liquid, lozenge or chewable. I'm not wild about needles, but I can do that on a regular basis. I do them weekly, but I'd not advise that for anyone else, unless they have need. I am addressing other issues with it, under the care of more than one doc. When 3 tell you to go to 1/wk, you do. Have been doing it over a year and my numbers are very reasonable. Not even " high " . Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Sharon, I use to have one of these kinds of doctors. Ended up with congestive heart failure because he wasn't listening to me or recognizing symptoms. I would have changed physicians then but I was on an HMO and trying to get approval for my WLS. I didn't want to start all over with a new doctor and have to get the referral, etc. I would strongly recommend that you start looking for a new doctor. Your life may eventually depend on it. Guest guest
I've " interviewed " several docs now, actually. No payment. It's fast, but I did reject one. Just ask, " So, what do you think about gastric bypass? " One doc said, " Those people just need to push away from the table. " Oh. Well. Why didn't *I* think of that? Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
