Guest guest
Hey there thanks for all the welcomes... I need to respond to some of those. I had a question though. We use the Acsencia which is supposed to be the most accurate for low blood sugars and I love it compared to the others I have tried. We have been doing blood sugars on our older son for 9 months now (5 times a day) so we aren't new to it or anything. However, we have been quite confused by some of True's readings since this all started. Last week before we were admitted for hypoglycemia, he just all of a sudden faded. His first reading was LO, which on the Ascencia means below 10. I took it again (and I think I might have used his toe this time, which is probably not good) and it was over 100. Soooo I took it again and it was 18. I took it again and it was like 112 (and one of those two might have been on the toe but I honestly can't remember now). So we went to the ER. When they checked it was 88 when we got there. Later they did a vien draw and we checked the machine against it and the lab had 68 and I had 72. This morning...my hubby got a 30 and then took it again and I got an 81. I have even run a control since being home AND spent 25 minutes on the phone with Ascencia and everything seems fine with the machine. I can't believe that those back to back readings could possibly be accurate. Can you? When do you treat your kids? With my older son, he is symptomatic with anythign under 80 but since True's have been so low, I kinda feel like a 70 is nothing now, but that wasn't my attitude a month ago. I am still in the studying process right now...we are feeding him every 3 hours now so it shouldn't get low (except whatever happened this morning) but I have caught a 72 after a bought of inconsolable crying. I am taking it more right now b/c the endo wants me to figure out if there is any pattern to it all. He has been ketotic and acidotic in the hospital but I haven't gotten any on the strips at home. So...any thoughts or advice? deb...mom to four fab adopted kiddos...
