Guest guest
I just posted an entry that I had my surgery one week ago tomorrow. Today is the first day I'm feeling okay, and think I can handle this. However, and this is a big butt, the mucus in my throat is driving me crazy. I do all the rinses I'm supposed to, but can not get rid of the mucus. I had a really rough night last night, not sleeping at all because I kept chocking. I had to do an emergency visit to my doctors this morning, since I thought I had to have done damage with all my hacking and trying to spit up the mucus. I know this is disgusting, but that's the name of the surgery I suppose. Any help on this? I feel as though I have constant stuff in my throat, and can't swallow it down. My nose is also draining down my throat, which is not pleasant in the least. My doctor said to drink lots of water and 7-up. I've been trying, but it doesn't seem to help. On top of that I have to drink so many Ensures, it keeps building. Any miracle cures out there? Thank you! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Nichol, I used pineapple juice to loosen up the crud in my throat. Because they had left the intubations in overnight, I guess I had a lot blood & mucous in my throat. Pineapple juice has a natural enzyme that breaks down mucous. I drank one small pineapple juice (8 oz can) (comes 6 to pk). It loosened it up enough to hack it up. I had to drink one, two days in a row to get the crud up. I had a problem breathing and ended up in ER twice because I couldn't catch my breath (complicated because I was so anemic after surgery and codiene pain meds). I finally stopped the pain meds (as it slows breathing rate) and went to tylenol, too. As soon as I got rid the crud in throat I was breathing better (as I had already stopped codiene pains meds). I didn't have a lot of draining down throat, not sure if this will help but thought I'd suggest it. Hugs.
