Guest guest
if it's a virus, the antibiotics won't help a virus, just a bacteria if it's an inflammation, the antibiotics won't help cure that yesterday, the ER gave me steriods and increased the predinsone for 3 days because of bronchitis it depends on what is causing your problem only the docs can tell you that when in doubt, go to the ER see my post from yesterday about my decision making issue Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: National Jewish HospitalTo: Breathe-Support Date: Monday, December 14, 2009, 12:40 PM Greetings,I'm here to inquire and/or complain. I was seen at NJH October 8th and 9th. I was told they would send for my biopsy slides from University of Tennessee and decide on a course of treatment when they had reviewed them. To date I have not heard from them but to say they had not yet received the slides. That was probably in October (memory fails me as I didn't write it down). I already have my reports from them as to all tests and recommendations.I've been in touch with them for advice about a URI that four courses of different antibiotics has not covered. Dr. Hines said I needed a culture while there twice but never did one. After talking to NJH this morning I was told to call my Dr. and if that fails, go to urgent care and let them know how I'm doing later in the week. So, I finally called UT pathology myself concerning the slides. It seems they were sent October 20th and they already have the report back from NJH. To say I'm baffled is an understatement. I now need a culture; but nobody would do one before antibiotics were started and I am having too many problems to wait a week without treatment. Question here: If this microbe can survive 4 different antibiotics and continue to thrive, then why must I wait 7 days for a culture to be valid? The darn bug is as healthy as ever and should grow in abundance! FYI, antibiotics were, Leviquin, Augmenten, Doxycycline and Omnicef. The good news, I hope, is that I have an appt to see a pulmo here at last. It is a week from today. Meanwhile I am getting sicker by the day and, it seems, will need antibiotics before my seven days off antibiotics is complete. Looks like urgent care or my largely disinterested internist will have to do. I have a call in to him now. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. Looks like this is more of a complaint than inquiry as it seems, after writing this, that I am doing the best I can for now. Still wonder about the biopsy slide thing and why they have not called. annPF, NSIP, HP, Bronchiectisis in five lobes, and who knows what next! Guest guest
Hi Joyce and Dyane, Antibiotics do help, at least three of them did. It comes back within a day or two of finishing them. I am mildly diabetic and do take Metformin for it. Being a retired L & D nurse I am pretty well able to follow the symptoms, apply logic and come up with a conclusion but not this time! I read that Bronchiectisis complicated with infections that are on-going, is treated with different drugs at higher doses over a longer period. Nobody gives me enough to do anything but temporarily suppress it. Looks like I'll be on the way to urgent care again today as my primary has not returned my call or will return it at 6pm. I am feeling worse by the minute so need help before then. I'm not sure how I'd justify showing up in ER with urgent care available. I'd feel kind of silly? If I can get a bandaid fix that will last me until Monday I'll see the new guy and need you all to keep your fingers crossed that he is a good one!!! You know, it isn't this disease that is killing me. It's the lousy medical care I have had since moving here. Yep! I'm mad! ann > > > > Subject: National Jewish Hospital > To: Breathe-Support > Date: Monday, December 14, 2009, 12:40 PM > > > Â >
Guest guest
God forbid you should actually know your own body! What are you thinking!! My wonderful internist asked why I went somewhere else for my annual pap ( I go to a all women doctors clinic) and I told him when he went thru menopause he could do it. He laughed and said I had him there. I refuse to be treated like an idiot and they usually don't like that do they. Here's hoping you get something strong enough to help. Guest guest
Hi again and thanks for all the input. When the doc says, " You know your body better than I do, " that is when I know they are clueless as to what I have and what to do with it. They then usually just Rx whatever I ask for. Kathy, I wasn't told I had bronchiectasis until I recently got a copy of my records (2004) and read them. Then the CT scan from Jewish made note of it. Nobody has ever mentioned it even when treating a URI. The best thing I have found so far includes the cystic fibrosis kind which we don't have but also gives lots of basic info on cause and treatment on the garden variety. The site is: http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec05/ch054/ch054a.html Joyce, It sounds as if a trip to ER could be productive! Went to Urgent Care this afternoon and got right in. The doc was older than me (68)! WOW! He laughed when I told him my bronchiectisis was idiopathic. He said he just thought that meant that they (docs) were idiots! I laughed at that one. Some truth there. Anyway, I got an antibiotic that will last until I see the new pulmo so I'll live. Sure is nice to have a place to unload!
