Guest guest
Think you mean zinc http://www.cc.nih.gov/ccc/supplements/zinc.html Zinc mainly has to do with your immune system. I dont' think it would make you feel more hungry. You were modified with this bypass and looks like they are telling you you are deficient in zinc. So most likely yup you'll have to take that forever. As to having to do 100mg for life, your blood work will show if it comes up or not..keep getting that done regularly so you can track how you are doing. Sherra Zink > Thanks for all the protein info. Guest guest
Tina, zinc helps with the absorption of protein - so it may well be part of it. If you're not getting your protein in, your body will start sending hunger signals so that you'll eat more. But if you're really hungry, I'd look at carbs, and if your carbs are ok, I'd begin to wonder if you have some sort of mechanical failure, like a relaxed stoma, or a pouch that was too big. I don't believe in blaming the patient, but I do recognize that too many carbs will cause me to be hungry. Pam in Niceville Zink Thanks for all the protein info. I'm going to get online and order some samples. I am so hungry that if this will help I'll be dancing in the street! Now another question. What is Zink? I just got message from the Dr. office that my bloodwork showed I'm low on zink and have to take 100mg a day now. When asked for how long they said for life. Could that possibly make me hungry (I'm grasping at straws I'm sure) I tried to look up zink and I think I just don't know where to look. I gets lots of retail websites but not really any understandable information on what it is and how it affects the body. Guest guest
It's called Zinc. Maybe that's why you couldn't find it. It helps with immunity too. People take zinc to aid in colds, flu, etc. B Distal RNY 12/27/95 275/147 Zink Thanks for all the protein info. I'm going to get online and order some samples. Guest guest
Zinc is a mineral. The FDA RDI is 15 mg a day. It is primarily absorbed in the duodenum, which is bypassed with the gastric bypass procedure. Based on the experiences of my customers, I will predict that 100 mg a day will be too much, unless it is taken in a form that is not very absorbable. Zinc in dosages of 50 mg or higher will cause nausea in some people. I would predict that a dosage of 100 mg will cause nausea in most people. I would try to find a zinc amino acid chelate supplement. If you e-mail me privately, I will give you two sources for it. Guest guest
Zinc is a mineral like magnesium. I am not sure what the side effects of low zinc would be. Might be worth a google search. The actual spelling of it is ZINC. Funny spelling I know. Try a search with that. My doc put me on a tablet called Zinklet. Each pill contains 100 mg of zincsulfate. I take two of these a day. Dawn

Studies on normies have shown the upper limit of safe is about 50mg/day. Assuming we only absorb about half of what a normie would, that would be about 100mg/day. You're doing double that. Some vits/mins are okay to " o.d. " on and others are not. Zinc is one you may not want to overdo. Carol A
Guest guest
I got deficient in zinc Lori and was also put on 100mg supps which I continue to take, as a result of which my zinc levels went back into range. The only " side effect " I noticed after becoming aware of the zinc deficiency was that my nails got extremely brittle and cracky. Dietician told me zinc deficiency could also manifest in hair loss. Now it's certainly possible people may experience more and more severe side effects as they become severely zinc deficient, but I caught mine " in time " and am now the proud possessor of less brittle, uncracky nails (am still working on the bald spots however!) Guest guest
I got my latest labs today. Normal Zinc levels are 11-21. My levels were 9 in June. Today, my doc gave me my levels from blood taken last week. Zinc is at 12. In my case, doubled up in important. I see him every other month for awhile. We will adjust as needed. Guest guest
Be sure to space the zinc supplements out. The number one complaint I get from my customers is a slight feeling of nausea. This comes from the zinc in our supplement. When they take a capsule in the morning and one in the afternoon, it does not happen, but when they take the both at the same time. Some people are more sensitive than others.
