Guest guest
Wow...it's ahrd to believe that this time three weeks ago I had probably already been administered the ''happy'' meds in the IV to relax me for the anesthesia!! The actual purpose of this post is as follows: I go to my OS at 4:30 today to see about getting my bands off. I'm tightly banded, practically the equivalent of wiring, and can't move my jaws at all. He normally waits the 4-6 wks for most people but I start school next Friday and have to be able to talk. I have noticed in some people's posts they talk about the jaw ''shifting'' to the right or left after the bands come off and them having to be rebanded and such. I was wondering if this is generally in people whose jaws were out of line to begin with. I think this is called asymmetry. To my knowledge my jaw was centered. My OS never mentioned having to move it to the right or left to recenter it when he showed me the models. It was always just 'back' or 'forward'. I was just kinda wondering if I needed to watch my jaw for any right or left shifting movements or if I don't have anything to worry about since my jaw wasn't asymmetrical. I know I need to ask my OS about this concern but I was just wondering if the people who had talked about such occurences had their jaws moved one way or the other. And has anyone who had their lower jaw moved back ever had their jaw try to shift forward again? I sometimes have the feeling that my chin is still in it's old place. I guess it's kind of like a phantom limb since i've been so used to having it there for so long. Just wondering if I needed to be on the lookout for my jaw moving. oooo...i just thought of another question...i have been doing some reading and i do believe that i had the vertical oblique osteotomy version of the lower jaw surgery because i think the saggital split version has plates and screws and i don't have those in my lower jaw...has anyone who had the vertical oblique osteotomy been allowed to eat soft foods at a 3 week point? like actually eat the vegetables in vegetable beef soup instead of just drinking the broth, etc? I know in my reading it said you can't for up to 6 weeks because it could displace the jaw, but I didn't know if anyone had done this without negative effects. anyway...i think that's it for now! --ashley
