Hi everyone,

Firstly thank you very much to all of you who answered my recent post

regarding 's hypo episodes. It was interesting to read that

other RSS kids have also experienced blood sugar level problems later

than infancy (Pat, I hope they find some answers for soon)

and thanks to Dayna for giving me the ref numbers for the MAGIC

papers. They are being mailed to me now from MAGIC.

Following 's appt with her Endo on Friday, she is now being

admitted on Tuesday for 24 hours and they are going to carry out a

fasting glucose test. Atleast I think that's what it is. Basically

they said that she will not have anything to eat or drink aside from

water from 6pm onwards and they will measure her bloods and take

samples from her (blood and urine) as she goes hypo in the morning.

She will have a canula fitted so that they can easily take blood and

can also give glucose very quickly if there is a problem (although

that would then stop the test). Once she has gone hypo they will take

extra blood samples, to measure ketones etc, and then give her a

blast of glucose and measure her blood sugars as that takes effect.

They have reassured me that will be well looked after and

closely watched (and I will be there all the time) but I can't say I

am too comfortable with watching her go hypo again! Hopefully it will

all go OK. Have plenty of you had this test on your kids too? It

would be great to hear how it went.

The Endo said that they could also take samples for GH whilst she was

hypo (so I think they are doing a GH stim test alongside), as she

said the next step is to see if is GH deficient or not. We

fully expect her not to be, but at least we will know for certain

afterwards. Has anyone else had these two tests done together?

Well, thanks once again for your previouis help, and it would be

great to hear of any experiences of the above tests. I am sure they

are pretty regular ones for RSS kids, but I can't help but be a bit

worried ...

Take care all,
