H,

Is Ian feeling better? Is he eating more? Jonah's Periactin is given in

cc, so I don't know about teaspoon dosages.

Hi H,

Please consider starting out slowly with periactin. It is an

anithistamine and it can leave one feeling tired cranky and

irratable.

When we started with the doctor gave us the following

dosing schedule.

Week 1 -- 1/4 of the prescribbed dosage.

Week 2 -- 1/2 of the prescribed dosage.

Week 3 -- 3/4

Finally week 4 -- full dosage.

Also, please keep this in mind. At first, you may see a big spike

in appetite. Then this will begin to fade. It will seem that it is not

working, but it is. What periactin does is raise the average level

of appetite over a long period of time. Your son may only eat an

extra 50 or 100 calories a day, but spread over a year this will

make big difference in his weight. Of course somedays, he will

still have that typical RSS response aqqnd not be hungry at all.

Remember, this is for the long term. Rapid short term weight

gains are not very healthy.

I hope this helps.

Emerence was on steriods last year for about a week or so to help

with her breathing issues and I did seem to notice an increase in

eating...

Thoughts for your friend...

- thank you so much for asking about Ian! I really

appreciate it. He's on and off with eating. He'll go through

spurts where I wonder where it all goes. Then, like now, he eats

sometimes 1/2 cup of food all day long. It drives me crazy! LOL

But, I've become so used to it - I go into a mode and try to just

get as many calories in him as I can. He has a little bit of a

cold - but, he's fine. Thanks again for asking.

Hi Ken. This helps me tremendously. Thank you so much for posting -

I very much appreciate the input. I'm not concerned with Ian's

weight in the sense that he doesn't look healthy - because I think

he looks great. It's the fact that he doesn't have any " fat stores "

and I'm worried that another sickness will make him lose more weight

and cause more hypglycemia issues. I also don't like the fact that

he hasn't really gained since June. So, I figured we should

probably start something now - especially through the winter

months. I've really hesitated about Periactin - but, I really like

the idea of starting VERY slow.

Thanks again for the support and info - it's very helpful.
