Guest guest
If protein is stored in the body, it is stored as fat. You can bulk up your protein level by exercising, but just eating is not going to do much. Guest guest
I honestly don't recall where I read that. The gist was that protein can be broken down into fat molecules and stored as fat. The source may have been incorrect, but I doubt it. I would be interested in hearing more on the subject. Guest guest
Here are a few sources for this: " Excess protein taxes the liver and kidneys, and does nothing to increase muscle mass because the excess that is not used for energy is converted to fat. http://www.free-weightloss.com/Diet/high_protein.htm " Excessive protein will be converted by the liver and stored as fat. " http://www.healthgoods.com/Education/Nutrition_Information/Nutrition_Short_Cours\ e/nutrition_basics.htm " Many people believe incorrectly that protein is converted into muscle. It is not. The protein we eat is broken down into its components, amino acids. Then if a person uses their muscles, some of the amino acids are recombined into muscle protein two days later. Yes, two days. This means that eating a big steak dinner the night before a football game is useless for the game. This is not my opinion. This is well-known among coaches who study nutrition. Some coaches don't study nutrition. For example, a man who has an office job where he does not do a lot of manual labor requires about 52 grams of protein per day. If he eats meat at all three meals, he eats far too much protein to maintain his weight, and the excess protein in converted into fat. " http://www.ibhealth.net/articles/010020021023art1.html " Excess protein, not utilized for tissue repair or growth or as an energy source is converted by the body to fat and stored. " http://www.ifafitness.com/book1/protein.htm enough said. Guest guest
Well, that scares me. I must be spending it like pennies,. I weighed 106 this morning and have been getting over 180g a day in supplement, plus whatever protein food sneaks into me. Does that mean that without protein supps I would shrink away and vanish? OH yeah, I know with my distal I'd die of malnutrition, but would I shrink first? Guest guest
there is your answer, EXCESS protein. since we malabsorb protein, I think it would be really hard for us to have excess. Plus this refers to non-wls who are eating excessive amounts that the body has to digest and break down. Ours goes in ready to use, the body doesn't have to work at it. Just my 2 cents Phyllis Re: Question about protein loading > > If protein is stored in the body, it is stored as fat. Guest guest
Well, when I was a normie, just before surgery, I lost 15lbs using just 2 shakes per day and still eating 3 meals. Of course, I also cut out all sugar and toned down the carbs. I had no problems and didn't gain weight. Get me straight here, I toned down the carbs, but still ate them. I ate pretty normally, but with the shakes I was able to satisfy my protein needs and also was able to load for surgery and faster healing. Wanna know if it worked? I was back at work 12 days after surgery. (I was lap rny and had a sit down job.) Now, having no idea how proximal I am, which I know that I am based on my slow weight loss, I only do 2 per day minimum and a max of 4 @ 30g each. On days that I get the max, I actually eat less. I am of the opinion that there is no way a distal can overload on protein shakes. A proximal? That isn't so easy to see, we're all different. For me, the protein shakes haven't hurt me one bit.
