Guest guest
Hi Hayley, My name's sarah i'm 20 yrs old and from the UK too where in the UK are you from? I will be five months post op on Thursday I had upper jaw surgery, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone and bone graft surgery. I was nervous and exited about my surgery. I looked in the mirror the day after surgery but my eyes were blurry and I had double vision so I didn't get to see properly. But my dr asked me a few days after if I wanted to take a look and she got me a mirror if I would have been able to cry I would have because despite the swelling and bruising I looked so much better. When everyone saw my face when I looked in the mirror tehy started clapping and some even cried ( I was still in bed on the ward) I was lucky to have such great people on the ward they were a great support. My mum was also there when I looked in the mirror and she shed some tears when she saw how happy I was. The Dr asked what part I like best and I couldn't tell at the time but now I have cheek bones for the first time in my life!!!! --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. I had my top jaw moved forward in december 04 and went back in 8 weeks to go to have my plates removed because of swelling. I can honestly say didnt really prepare myselfe for the change it had on my face, still really unsure if I like my new look or not. What I will say to you be prepared for the unexepected. I hope it goes well for you.
Guest guest
I think the best thing to do is to take a little while and look through all the before and after photos you can find; both on this website and then also elsewhere on the web. That should give you a general idea of how much of a change your surgery will make in your face. If I hadn't seen how swollen some people get I might have been really worried about my state right now, but having prepared for that I feel totally fine with how I'm looking right now. I am just three days post-op and am very swollen, but so far happy with my results. I can tell that my face is not as long anymore, I think my lip incompetence will be gone after the swelling goes away, and my teeth definitely line up in a nice bite now. No more underbite, protruding lower jaw, long face, etc. My nose looks a little different, but I'm not sure how different it will stay. I was upset by this idea at first before surgery, but the more I thought about it, the less I was concerned. It really doesn't look that bad, even though it's wider and puffy right now. My thought on that has always been that if I hate my nose afterward, it's a much easier surgery to go through than this one was, if I choose to do so to change it. Right now though I think I'll be fine with it. As far as when/where/with whom to look at yourself at first, that's just up to what you think is best. There was a mirror on the wall beside my bed in the hospital, so I could sort of see my face there right away, though my consciousness was spotty the first day and I slept a lot. But the next morning I got up and washed my face off, brushed the front of my teeth a little, and saw my face. I was immediately happy with what I saw, and can't wait for the swelling to go away to see the " new " me...that is, how I should have looked all along if my bones hadn't grown funny. Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll do fine and hopefully love the outcome! ~
Guest guest
Hi Hayley, I had top and bottom jaw and chin. Have a look at my pictures under maria for an idea. I was shocked at the difference initially, but I love it now. Give it time and you get use to it. Don't be nervous you will be right, Don't forget the 1st week is the hardest. I had my op 13/9/05 and even though I still have some swelling, is minimal. Good luck, > Hi everyone.. > My name is hayley, I'm 21 yrs old from the UK.
