As for the effect on sex, yep, Effexor was in the same category as all of the other SSRI drugs -- it made my interest in sex practically nonexistent and my ability to have an orgasm but a distant memory. Within the last six months, my psychiatrist has changed my meds -- I am off SSRI's now, and taking drugs typically used to treat bipolar disorder, with great success (I guess this may mean that my diagnosis all of these years of depression was wrong, and should have been bipolar disorder?). One of the additional benefits of this is that I have been given back my sex life!! It has been like a honeymoon at my house for the past several months -- my poor husband is getting tired! If you do experience weight gain with the Effexor, or if it is not adequately handling your depression, don't hesitate to keep trying other medications until you hit on the right one for YOU. Keep in mind though, that Effexor is a very difficult medicine to stop taking -- you must be weaned off of it very gradually, or you will feel like you are going crazy -- like, " take me to the hospital " crazy. I have been on Prozac for over 10 years and have had pretty much 0 libido. I HAVE been diagnosed as bipolar. I also take Wellbutrin and Lamictal. I have tried to get off prozac with little success. It is magic for my depression, but sex would be nice too. Barbara Jean
