I would like to know if any of the other grads (women of course,

LOL) have gone through this. Here's my story. Started my cycle on

the day of surgery (11-13-02). Then got my period about every 21 to

24 days till June of this year. Skipped a period, then got one on

August 4th. Then, kaput...nothing....I haven't had a period since

then (it has been over 4 months).

I went to my family doc and she wasn't too concerned. Said that I

most likely wasn't in menopause due to my age (35). She did 2 urine

pregnancy tests both of which were negative (also dh had a vasectomy

nearly 6 years ago, so pregnancy wasn't likely anyway). She told me

in Oct to wait till January, then to come in so she could " induce " a

period. She said that the period would probably just come soon

anyway and she doubted I'd be in in January. Her " theory " was that

rapid weight loss messed with my cycle.

Well, in the meantime it is like I have been PMSing for 4 straight

months and even *I* can't deal with my mood swings and such. Poor dh

sometimes literally hides from me. I am at the point that I don't

wanna wait anymore, I want the period induced now.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any thoughts as to why this would

be happening? The only other thing I have been having (besides the

whole reactive hypoglycemia thing), which I am not sure is related,

is some gas type pain under my belly button (Gall bladder and kidney

stones were ruled out). The family doc and the surgeon think the

pain may be related to the IBD (colitis) that I have been dealing

with since the age of 19.

I dunno, just need input I guess.

Thanks,

Kricket

Kricket,

How old was your mother when she began perimenopause? My mother

started missing periods right when she turned forty, and just as the docs

predicted, I have started perimenopause at an early age.

Granted, you are extremely young to be starting this wonderful

journey, but it's not out of the question.

You sound just like me. I actually started a period exactly one month

after surgery. I had a regular period (about every 4 weeks) for about 10

months. I have been hit and miss every since. I just had a period after

5 months without one. I am going to an OB/GYN this month for an annual

pap smear and hopefully to discuss what is going on. I suspect a couple

of things are going on. I know some of this has to do with weight and

weight loss. I also have been having periods since I was 8 or 9 and I am

now 43 so it is possible that I am in pre menopause. I wonder if maybe

you too are in premenopause.

Hey Kricket,

Can totally relate. Ask your gyno or regular doctor to run the test that

checks your hormones - it's the one that tells where you are at in regard to

menopause. I had very similar experience. Period about 1 month out of

surgery, then a another. Then went some time without and had another. Very

hit and miss. Then I had my last period in September, which really didn't

concern me as I don't care if I have one or not LOL. However I started

having hot flashes, which at first the dr thought were fever symptoms (had 3

different viral things going on, mile west nile, inner ear and flu type

thing).

Any way . . . I asked my regular dr to recheck my hormones (he had checked

the 2.5 months prior and they were perfectly fine) He thought it was kind

of useless, but agreed. He was amazed when he called me with the results.

I'm not pre-menopausal - I'm done I'm in the tail end of menopause. Now

mind you I saw my gyno about 4 months before this all happened and my exam

was perfectly normal. When I went to see her this time it was a different

story. She has seen it happen with woman who have lost a lot of weight in a

short time, never this fast, but I bet they are wrong.

I'm just 42 and I'm all done. I'm taking lots of vit e for the hot flashes

(I can't take estrogen). Before seeing my dr I started taking estroven and

boy did it make me miserable, I felt like I was going to have the period

from hell.

Sorry for the length, if you want more info, just let me know!

Good luck!

Lucky You!! I am 41 and had an endometrial ablation this summer to stop the

excessive bleeding that I was dealing with. I would love to be 41 and all

done. Kim O
