Guest guest
: What type of surgery did you have done? Upper, lower or what? Something sure doesn't sound right. When are you having the MRI? For thoose of you who are post op I have a question: a few weeks after my surgery my face was very sore/tender to touch and even with the slightest of touch I would flinch, but about 3 weeks ago the right side of my face became numb again and felt cold is this normal? --------------------------------- Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page
Guest guest
, sorry to hear that things are going slowly for you. As for the coming & going of numbness & cold, yes, I've had that. Sometimes my chin and lower lip would feel number than the stage they were at, and icy cold to boot. I'm not saying what you're feeling is normal, though, and I would definitely mention it to your surgeon. I never had any tender spots. > > > Hello, > > I am 14 weeks post op, I saw my surgeon yesterday who said that he doesn't know what's going on. Guest guest
Has anyone had problems taking the time off from work? That's a big concern for me -- we will be having an extremely high volume of work starting the next couple of months and lasting 3 years. I was hoping to have the surgery before it started, but now the surgery's been pushed back. I'm being told to take my vacation time now b/c I won't be able to later and am being given a hard time about leaving an hour early each month for ortho appts, am afraid to even mention that I'll need time off for this. How far in advance did you tell your managers that you'd need the surgery? How did they take it? > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] 14 weeks post op.. >Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2005 11:30:38 -0700 (PDT) > > > >Hello, > >I am 14 weeks post op, I saw my surgeon yesterday who said that he doesn't >know what's going on. Guest guest
First of all, don't use vacation time for surgery & recovery. That's not what it's for (even though my own manager told me that's what I'd use, luckily he said it in front of our head office HR person, who immediately corrected him and said no, I'd qualify for short term disability right from the day of surgery). Your company needs to have plans in place in case of employee illness or absence regardless of your own personal circumstance, and you should try to raise that if you need to. I told my manager that the time I required off (which I wasn't sure about - I said it would be 3 weeks average, maybe less, maybe more - in the end I took 5 weeks) was a one time deal - I am a very healthy person and this is just to fix a congenital skeletal deformity. I gave him about 8 months notice regarding the length of time I'd be off, although we didn't know the date. That way, we both worked on hiring someone to be trained in my job so that the company wouldn't skip a beat while I was off. Managers can be evil. They can say things that are completely false, hoping that you don't know any better. If your company is large enough to have an HR dept, or a union, go immediately and speak with them. If not, then you'll have to appeal to your manager in whatever way you can. Hope that helps, > Has anyone had problems taking the time off from work? Guest guest
I started my current job (nursery nurse) Feb 2005 and I had my surgery May 6th though I took the week before the surgery off for pre-op appts etc. I was worried about telling them about the surgery, they knew that I was having the surgery but didn't know what date. I found out the date of my surgery a month in advance and I told my boss that I would be having the surgery. I was asked by one boss if I was going to take it off as vacation time but I wasn't going to waste my vacation time when I could have the time off with sick pay. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I spoke to my surgeon he said that it could be that the nerves are all healing or the infection is affecting the nerves we will have to wait until I have the MRI scan to see what's going on. I am so frustrated right now with not knowing what's going on. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
- - That's one thing I'm concerned about when the time comes to have my surgery. Although all my bosses know I will be having surgery next summer, I can't help but wonder how it will impact my small dept. My OMS says I will be out for a minimum of four weeks if he performs both the BSSO and the LeFort, and two to three weeks if he only does the BSSO. I work in the Pathology Dept of a large hospital (NOT the hosp. I will be having my surgery in: too expensive); I'm one of three Cytotechnologists and we get a fair amount of Pap smears to screen each day. I'm wondering how the other Tech's will be able to keep up without me; I guess they'll be doing alot of O.T.! My Pathologists (my bosses) don't seem too concerned about this yet, but as my surgery creeps closer I'm sure they will be discussing the topic. My fellow Tech's have told me not to worry about it and to take all the time I need to completely recuperate, but I just wonder what's going to happen. I have a total of thirteen weeks of short-term disability time to use for just this purpose, but I will only need to use four or five weeks according to my Surgeon. ~~~~~ Diane-- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " Weidel " <s_weidel@h...> wrote: > Has anyone had problems taking the time off from work? Guest guest
Diane, Sounds like our situations are similar. I'm an editor, the only person that does what I do in my dept., so no one to cover for me. We're revising our entire line of books starting this fall, a huge amount of work. From what I've heard, everyone will be very busy, so I'm not sure how my work will be taken care of. And they haven't been very understanding toward a freelancer who had to take time off for a knee replacement (they decided to not use her anymore). Since I'm a full-time employee, I get disability leave and can get HR's support if I need to, but I just really get the feeling that this is not going to go over well. I think I'm going to wait to tell them once my surgery date is firmed up. Give them enough time to train other people to cover, but don't want them to see me as a liability any sooner than they need to. > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: [Orthognathic Surgery >Support ] 14 weeks post op.. >Date: Fri, 19 Aug 2005 05:54:19 -0000 > >- - That's one thing I'm concerned about when the time comes >to have my surgery.
